Check to make sure that the linkage isn't broken or you have a pin sheared. If you can't get it done externally, you may have to remove the seat and the top lid of the hydraulic unit. Larry

1800 hydraulic pump replacement

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on August 25, 2016 at 07:51:28 AM by Vince Christensen

Working on 1800 serial 110617-886 spec 18-2201 Hyd pump has cast pickup and relief value attached. Pump is a Cessna/Eaton 24307-RAF There is no available new replacements. I am currently looking for used. My question is can the relief valve be relocated. Where did the newer models bypass. Can this earlier model be updated to the newer pumps that are available. Tractor has a new motor and would love to put her back to work on the ranch.

The 1800 pump has 5/8 9 spline drive The 1850 pump has a 11 toothe spline x 3/4 drive and no bypass Please explain how to make the change.

Re(3): 1800 hydraulic pump replacement

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on August 25, 2016 at 07:57:22 AM by Larry Harsin

You will have to get the drive gears That go with the 1850 pump and switch them when you make the change. Larry

Re(4): 1800 hydraulic pump replacement

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on August 25, 2016 at 07:59:10 AM by Vince Christensen

Does the new style pump have a internal relief valve set at 1750 psi or do you have to add one.

Re(5): 1800 hydraulic pump replacement

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on August 25, 2016 at 08:07:43 AM by Larry Harsin

A new style hydraulic pump has access to the relief valve so you can change the pressures by adding or removing shims. Larry

Re(6): 1800 hydraulic pump replacement

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on August 25, 2016 at 10:38:21 AM by Vince Christensen

Do you have access to the part numbers for pump. The after market books don't give any info. They don't show relief valves or parts. I will also have to build a pick up tube. Thank you for your help.

Re(7): 1800 hydraulic pump replacement

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on August 25, 2016 at 10:42:22 AM by Larry Harsin

The parts numbers you will need:
159022A The pinion on the pump
159023A Intermediate gear with 43 teeth
159020A Pinion gear sets in the tractor

The pickup tube should be with the new pump. Larry

White 4-210 Transmission Oil

IP: 208.70.36.2 Posted on August 10, 2016 at 06:40:54 PM by Dan Sliment

We have a White 4-210 Tractor with an issue of the front transmission oil being pumped to the rear transmission but it is not being pumped back to the front. We looked at the lines to the generator and appear to be ok with no obstructions. We pulled the gerotor pump apart and the gear appears to be ok. Did not see any wear or damage to it. We are looking for additional information of what the issue could be and how to repair it.

Re(1): White 4-210 Transmission Oil

IP: 98.21.22.14 Posted on August 19, 2016 at 01:04:31 PM by 2-stroke DD

Why do you think no oil is being pumped to the front? Does the transmission lube light stay on? Does the PTO lube light come on? Oil from the generator pump goes to the piston pump and to the front transmission and to the back housing for PTO lube . If you have PTO lube and your piston pump is working ok oil has to be going to the front unless a line is kinked. It is possible that the orifice in the input shaft lube fitting is plugged but oil would still be going through the countershaft and bevel pinion shaft fittings.

Re(2): White 4-210 Transmission Oil

IP: 208.70.36.2 Posted on August 21, 2016 at 06:21:47 PM by Dan Sliment

Here is our problem: When using the tractor, oil will come out the dip stick tube on the rear portion of the tractor. When doing research it was suggested to look at the generator pump. Since it pumps oil from the front to the back and back to the front. But from the information you provided we will need to look further at a piston pump or orifice. Any additional information and guidance would be much appreciated.

Re(3): White 4-210 Transmission Oil

IP: 98.21.22.14 Posted on August 22, 2016 at 08:46:26 AM by 2-stroke DD

The only reason I mentioned the piston pump is because if it is working more then likely your gerotor pump is ok. The piston pump itself should have nothing to do with your problem. Are you sure you didn't overfill the rearend? The scavenge pump in the front has a suction tube that only goes low enough to maintain the proper oil level for the transmission. You do not use the dipstick in the front to check the oil level. you should run the tractor a few minutes then shut it off then check the oil level at the back dipstick. also make sure the breather filter on the top of the rear hsg. is clean. If your trans. pressure light goes out with the tractor running you are getting oil to the front.

Re(5): White 4-210 Transmission Oil

IP: 208.70.36.2 Posted on August 24, 2016 at 08:59:55 PM by Dan Sliment

Thank you for the information. We put the gerotor back together, looked at the breather and cleaned it. We also looked at the lines they do not appear to be pinched, they we blew some air threw them. Then we made sure front and rear oil levels were the same. Ran the tractor for 15 minutes the levels were almost the same (front a bit lower). Then we drove the tractor about 1/4 mile and checked the oil levels. Front oil level was barely on the dip stick, but the rear was over full. Any other thoughts or suggestions.

Water pump pulley on Oliver 1850 Diesel

IP: 66.244.79.137 Posted on August 10, 2016 at 10:36:29 AM by Ron Hardesty

I have a 1965 Oliver 1850 Diesel with the Perkins engine in it. The fan belt pulley on the water pump keeps wallowing out wobbling on the water pump shaft. This is the second within 16 months. I am keeping the bolt tight that fastens the pulley to the water pump shaft. Do you have any idea what may be causing this to happen?

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on August 23, 2016 at 07:46:50 AM by Larry Harsin

No, I don't. You may have to replace the shaft and the pulley to correct this. Larry

Will my 550 handle a 3-16 plow

Re(1): plow

IP: 104.143.54.30 Posted on August 8, 2016 at 02:42:18 PM by Sean

No it is a good 2 plow tractor. 3-16's would be a lot for it unless the soil was light and you plowed shallow.

Re(2): plow

A 3 - 14 would work better. It will handle 3 bottoms, but I think 3 - 16's is pushing it. Larry

No. You can put a new throw-out bearing on that cast piece. Larry

1755 hydraulic problems

IP: 67.45.96.19 Posted on August 8, 2016 at 00:30:15 AM by Jeremy

You've always been so helpful in the past. I have hydraulic problems with my 1755. It sounds and feels like it is getting air in the system. When using the 3 pt or remotes it makes a warbling noise and then will hesitate to lift. Then it will decide to lift. It will make the same noise when steering and the steering will momentarily lock up. It seems to get worse after using the tractor for a while. It has 2100 psi at the remotes. I have changed the hydraulic oil and filter and pulled the breather off too see if it got better. It hasn't changed any. I do have a small oil leak on the steering cylinder cap under the radiator. I am going to replace that "o" ring. Also I have heard that they can get air in the system through the oil cooler pump. I am going to try and take the belt off and run the tractor for a while and see if it changes. ----How long can I run the tractor with the belt off and not worry about over heating the hydraulic pump? ----If that is the problem where can I get a new oil cooler pump? ----Also are there any simple tests I can do to test the hydraulic pump? Do you think that the hydraulic pump is going bad? Thanks for your input and help

Re(1): 1755 hydraulic problems

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on August 8, 2016 at 07:10:44 AM by Larry Harsin

I think that it is a pretty good chance that your hydraulic pump is getting bad. I don't have a replacement pump. Call O'Brien Co. Impl. 800-320-6224. Larry

1550 Diesel Radiator Cap Pressure

IP: 24.155.209.159 Posted on August 6, 2016 at 10:15:52 PM by Matt

Larry-I can't thank you enough for all your help. I can't find the coolant system pressure in the owners manual. I think my cap may be original from 1965 and does not seem to be holding pressure anymore. What radiator cap do I need?

Re(1): 1550 Diesel Radiator Cap Pressure

IP: 24.155.209.159 Posted on August 7, 2016 at 12:51:27 PM by Matt

I found a 4psi cap at Tractor Supply that would fit that I was hoping to get lucky with, but it still seems to boil out. From what I see available online, 7psi also looks like an option. Should that help? Thanks again, Matt.

Brake actuator ball lubricant

Oliver 55 how to adjust brakes

IP: 174.63.14.99 Posted on August 2, 2016 at 04:14:23 PM by Richard Hamelin

Thank you for having both websites and for your being so generous with sharing information. Today, I bought a Oliver 55/Super 55 (serial number 7 327-518) set up with a Ware trencher backhoe and a Henry loader. She runs great and strong. I would like to adjust the brakes, I think the pedal goes too low and she slips on grade unless I stand on the pedals. I searched and looked through several archives but cannot locate any instructions as to where or how the adjustment is done. Thank you for helping. Best regards, Rick

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on August 4, 2016 at 07:32:22 AM by Larry Harsin

The procedure to adjust the brakes is in the Operator's Manual. It amounts to loosening a lock nut and tightening the adjusting bolt. It is located below the brake pedal on the bottom of the tractor. Larry

Oliver Super 55 Ball Nut Ball Bearings

IP: 199.168.151.119 Posted on August 4, 2016 at 01:44:55 PM by Larry Broderick

I have purchased my first tractor which is an old Super 55. She runs well but has had steering issues. The steering was getting to hard to be able to use the tractor. (Brush hogging and skidding logs) While taking the cowling and dash off the tractor the steering issue resolved itself. It was free spinning from lock to lock. I began to put it all back and something happened where the steering locked straight. I pulled the steering stem and found a ball bearing in the sector gears. I fished out 7 ball bearings and one barrel bearing out of the box. The ball bearings are coming out of the ball nut at the base of the steering stem. The barrel bearing came out of the thrust bearing directly above the ball nut. My question is how to I go about replacing the ball bearings inside the ball nut? I can manage the other bearings but the ball nut ball bearings seem tricky. Is the ball nut indexed on the shaft, meaning it has to go on at a certain place? How many balls need to go in and what is the process of getting them in the ball nut. Thank you for the assistance!

Re(1): Oliver Super 55 Ball Nut Ball Bearings

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on September 27, 2016 at 01:00:36 PM by Larry Harsin Use a little gun grease and put all of those balls back into the ball nut. There are supposed to be 60 of those balls. The barrel shaped one is not one of the balls. Larry

1550 Hydaulics - Power Beyond

IP: 165.225.34.109 Posted on August 2, 2016 at 07:31:03 AM by Matt

The loader on my 1550 Diesel is so slow its almost unusable. Currently its hooked up through the rear remotes. I know the factory pump is pretty small. Will swapping to a power beyond setup with a new loader valve make a noticeable difference, or is it a lost cause with the factory pump? Is a bigger pump the answer?

Re(1): 1550 Hydaulics - Power Beyond

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on August 4, 2016 at 07:29:08 AM by Larry Harsin

The Power Beyond would help, but a PTO pump would be best. Larry
