1755 oliver

IP: 107.77.85.119 Posted on December 26, 2014 at 11:04:55 AM by Travis

I had a guy do some work on my tractor. I'm not sure what he did but I can't get him to return my calls now. None of my gauges work now and I had a bad cell in my battery so I got a new battery and when I hooked it up, it started smoking around the air intake so I took the battery back off and I'm not sure if something is hooked up wrong or what he even messed with. I didn't have this problem before he got ahold it.

It sounds like your manifold preheater is engaged and it might be hooked up wrong or it could be a shorted solenoid. Larry

1950T Drive Coupling Chain

IP: 207.118.154.63 Posted on December 26, 2014 at 10:06:47 AM by Vern Karman

My coupling chain fell off the other day due to the master link having come undone. When I tried to reinstall the coupling chain I find that the two sprockets have moved apart so that the coupling chain won't go over the teeth. What do you recommend as the way to get the sprockets closer together.

White 2-85 PTO

IP: 70.35.109.213 Posted on December 22, 2014 at 06:20:34 PM by Barry

I just purchased a 2-85 MFWD. The PTO will engage but softly and not fully. The PTO speed doesn't increase when throtle is increased. I do not have any thing except a snow blower available to put a load on the PTO until we get some snow, none here now.

Re(1): white 2-85 PTO

IP: 172.242.134.43 Posted on December 24, 2014 at 10:00:12 AM by Larry Harsin

It could be that the PTO clutch is bad or that the control may not be sending enough oil to it to work. Larry

check the rol pin in the control valve bolted to the PTO housing. Hold onto the lever on the valve and move the pto lever on the top. there is a roll pin on the linkage that could be broken. If that is good there is another roll pin that moves the spool in the valve up and down on the lever. Take top cover off of the valve and check that one out also. If they are OK it more than likely cluth plates

1850 Hydro Trans.

IP: 69.170.103.223 Posted on December 19, 2014 at 05:29:24 PM by David Kay

Gentlemen, I'm working on an 1850 Oliver which had sat up for about 6 years. After successfully repairing multiple other systems I've run across a problem with the tractor's hydro-static Trans. This machine has a Low-Direct-High Trans. Of course oil and filter have been changed. Upon first starting I can run through all 3 speeds successfully. A short time later, there is very little difference in speed between the 3 ranges, though it does not appear to be slipping nor is the system getting hot. Pressures checked: Port closest to hydro filter 140 psi in Direct position; Other Port 140 psi in High position. Oil is a bit frothy and bubbles out dipstick tube a bit. Any suggestions? Thank in advance! David Kay

If those pressures are up, it may be o.k. Take it out and use it and see if it is o.k. Larry

1855 throttle adjustment

IP: 99.118.118.196 Posted on December 17, 2014 at 03:07:32 PM by gary wasielewski

Hello, I have a 1971 1855 diesel and would like to know how to adjust the throttle. It creaps down as it runs and will not hold a steady speed

Re(1): 1855 throttle adjustment

IP: 172.242.134.43 Posted on December 18, 2014 at 08:02:50 AM by Larry Harsin

There is an adjustment at the bottom of the fuel tank at the back. You will probably have to remove the side panel to get at it. It amounts to tightening a nut on a pivot. You can't get at it until you remove the side panel. Larry

1650 engine swap

IP: 66.60.211.66 Posted on December 13, 2014 at 05:20:27 PM by Reed Glawe

I have two Oliver 1650 diesels, one an earlier model 2-speed with the narrow frame and the other is a very late model 3-speed 1650 with a wider frame, right before the 1655 came out. I'd like to swap the engines. Will the motor from the earlier 1650 bolt up to the motor mounts and 3-speed in the later model?

Oliver 1710 loader

IP: 70.194.136.229 Posted on December 13, 2014 at 03:25:19 PM by bill keating

I have an Oliver 1710 loader my question is regarding the hydraulic tip bucket cylinders and lifting cylinders. the cylinders leak excessively and I believe they are the cause of my air problems in my hydraulic system. could you tell me how I can't take a part the tip bucket cylinders and or are their new replacement cylinders available for this loader. Any help would be grateful thank you.

As I remember, Schwartz built that loader. You can get an Operator's manual from the Floyd Co. Museum in Charles City. It will tell you how to service those cylinders. Larry

White 2-85 Hydraulic Pump Noise/Heat

IP: 64.8.141.71 Posted on December 9, 2014 at 11:51:40 AM by White Guy

We recently purchased a MFWD White 2-85 with a Cummins repower that is putting out about 115 HP. The over/under has been replaced with a straight shaft, so we just have 6 gears. We plan to use this tractor everyday on our TMR mixer to feed our cows, so only having the six gears is not a problem. We bought this tractor because it has a rebuilt front end, new clutch, Cummins with 1200 hours on it, and a new interior and seat. Its a pretty sweet little tractor. We do have a little problem, so we think. We have never owned a white before-we are IH guys. The hydraulic pump seems to be making noise until we use one of the remotes. When we use a remote, the noise really quiets down. Also, the line that supplies the 3pt system gets pretty warm/hot. I have no clue when the hydraulic filter was changed-we bought it at a consignment auction. I plan to change all the filters, but really know nothing about these tractors. So far it works great on the mixer, and we really like this tractor, and are considering upgrading our IH1586 to a White 160 because we like this little guy so much. Any help or knowledge is really appreciated.

I would change all of the filters and put in new oil in the correct oil as per the recommendations in your Operator's Manual. You may have a pump going bad. After you get the correct filters and the correct oil in it, if it is still doing this, you should have a mechanic check out the problem. If you need an Operator's Manual, you can get one from the Floyd Co. Museum in Charles City, IA 641-228-1099. Larry

You need to shim the relief valve, or replace the compensator valve on the side of the hyd. pump. You will need a pressure gauge to determine which one is bad. If I remember right I think the pressure shoul be at 2250 PSI which can be checked at the couplers with a looped hase, shut off valve and a gauge. A flow meter would be best then you can check the compensator valve

Oliver super 500

IP: 70.195.129.237 Posted on December 9, 2014 at 09:40:53 AM by Richard Greene

So I bought a oliver super 500 and it has a 6 cylinder gm motor is this what it came with? I can't find anything in my books on it...but it is a power house

I don't know what tractor you are talking about. There wasn't an Oliver Super 500. The Oliver 500 was like a Utility tractor and was built by David Brown in England. I am not aware of them coming with a 6 cylinder gm motor. Larry

I have a 1755 oliver if it sits for two days the lift arms will leak down. Can you help diagnose this problem

This is nothing unusual. If it leaked down in a few minutes, that would be different, but in two days. I don't know what to tell you. Larry

I think you can do this, but it is quite a procedure. You should get a Shop Manual before you start. You can get a Shop Manual, Operator's Manual and a Parts Manual from the Floyd Co. Museum in Charles City IA. 641-228-1099. Larry

Loader and Cab

IP: 50.187.18.91 Posted on November 30, 2014 at 12:29:08 PM by Dan

Larry, I am looking for a Cab and a loader for an 1855. Can you give me a recomendation for a loader make/Model/ and a cab make/model? Just so I can keep my eye out. I had heard some of those early cabs were not too great.

Re(1): loader and Cab

IP: 172.242.134.43 Posted on December 2, 2014 at 08:26:36 AM by Larry Harsin

This partly depends on where you live. I usually choose a Westendorf loader, if I have a choice. But we have had lots of different loaders. As for cabs, I don't like working with cabs. Many of them are rusted up etc. Really it is hard to find a choice and you have to take what you find. Larry
