White 2-65

Posted by Dom on December 31, 2016, 11:30 am 50.37.94.213

I know this is an Oliver page, but from my understanding the White is very similar. I have an early 80's White 2-65 and I've noticed when going downhill transmission/hydraulic oil is leaking from the starter. Recently, the clutch seems to be slipping when under a load and I suspect oil has leaked onto the clutch. I have the shop manual and cannot find where seals are located other than the rear main on the engine. Is there a seal between the transmission and the bell housing? If so, where do I purchase one and how difficult is it to replace? Thank you in advance!

I'm not familiar with that particular model. It sounds like maybe it is Japanese. It sounds like hydraulic oil is getting from the transmission into the clutch. You'd better get a Shop Manual for it from Charles City, IA. Order one from there at the Floyd County Museum. 641-228-1099 They have Operator's Manuals, Shop Manuals and Parts Manuals for it. Larry

Posted by todd on December 29, 2016, 8:42 am 104.254.37.4

hi Larry can you tell what carb came on a 1954 super 77. mine has a zenith but I understand they also came with a MS carb also. just trying to figure out if mine is original and what to replace it with if I wanted to go bigger for stock pulling. thanks

Posted by Larry Harsin on December 30, 2016, 8:31 am, in reply to "super 77 carb" 184.21.143.147

They had either Zenith or Marvel, so yours is probably original either way. Larry

Oliver 550 bevel pinion shaft

Posted by Steve on December 26, 2016, 9:54 pm 173.215.0.78

I have a 550 and found 2 bearings on the bevel pinion shaft are bad. How big of a job is it to fix this. Do I need to split the tractor? It is an industrial without pto or hydraulics? Is there anything else I should check or fix if I do the bearings?

Posted by Larry Harsin on December 27, 2016, 8:30 am, in reply to "Oliver 550 bevel pinion shaft" 184.21.143.147

The tractor has to be split to fix this. You had better get a Shop Manual for it from the Museum in Charles City. 641=228-1099. Larry

Oliver 550 Steering Box

Posted by Scott on December 22, 2016, 9:33 pm 65.27.140.36

Can anyone email me a print or photo how the throttle shaft bracket, instrument support bracket, and other pieces mount to the steering gear box?

This is the part I cant' remember how it attaches: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Instrument-Panel-Support-100635A-156684A-106338A-Oliver-550-2-44-Tractor-/231811775260?hash=item35f90efb1c:g:6ogAAOSwL7VWlCsG

The bolt holes do not line up to the steering box and I can't remember how it was when I took it apart.

Get a Parts Manual from the Floyd County Museum in Charles City. It will show you where everything goes. Their phone number 641-228-1099. Larry

1555 Cuts out/looses power cold weather

Posted by Bryan on December 18, 2016, 1:37 pm 216.114.234.157

this tractor has always been cold blooded , needing choke on abit til well warmed up, anyway, after pushing snow in 5 to 25 degree weather, it will start to cut out or loose power when you begin pushing , at 1500 to 1700 rpm, if I quickly pull out the choke and then push it back in can keep engine from dying, what can be done to improve this condition, what to check out,? sometime the carb will have frost on it, sometimes not. should I cover the radiator? New water pump and thermostat about 100 hours ago, I have covered carb with insulation in the past, but seems to do it anyway, seems to do this after has been running an hour or more. Suggestions?

Take the fuel strainer out of the fuel tank, clean it out if needed,. and make sure your tractor is getting fuel. Larry

power steering adapter

Posted by Marc Burg on December 16, 2016, 6:47 pm 67.55.180.116

I am looking for a drawing or location, to buy the bracket to mount torque generator on a Oliver 88

Posted by arnie on December 17, 2016, 2:42 pm, in reply to "power steering adapter" 66.230.245.170

I'm not sure what you mean by "torque generator" Does it have to do with adding a power steering pump? I have a Super 77 with power steering in my shop now. I could take photos or if you are not half way across the country you could drive over and take a look. I am near Dubuque Ia. Have a nice Christmas. Arnie

I am having some of these made.. I will have them eventually. Larry

550 exterior hydraulic addition

Posted by Steve Spangler on December 12, 2016, 11:12 am 75.105.48.161

I'm thinking of buying a 550 with no female hydraulic fittings to run a loader. I am new to Olivers, so I've researched some, and found that it is possible, but am unclear as to what all is involved. And if parts are affordable and available. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Steve

Posted by Larry Harsin on December 13, 2016, 7:58 am, in reply to "550 exterior hydraulic addition" 184.21.143.147

The hydraulic on a 550's use a front pump to run a loader. Check with Kent Gordon for parts needed. He is in Palestine TX and has parted out a ;to of these tractors. 903-729-8349. Larry

1800c oliver hydraulic problem

Posted by Ed Besewick on December 10, 2016, 2:33 pm 209.182.125.125

on my 1800 Oliver when you lift a heavy bale of hay after you get so high it will lock up and the only way to get it down is bump up against a tree to release the pressure and we have replaced the hydraulic couplers

Posted by Larry Harsin on December 12, 2016, 8:01 am, in reply to "1800c oliver hydraulic problem" 184.21.143.147

I would check the pump pressure. It should be approx. 1850 lbs. Plug a gauge into one of your outlets and check the pressure. Also, without trying to lift the bale, make sure when the hitch is all of the way up, make sure that there is an inch of free travel at the top. (You should be able to raise it another inch or so after you have raised it up all the way.) Larry

Oliver 550 power steering

Posted by Steve on December 8, 2016, 7:25 pm 173.215.0.78

I have a 1961 oliver 550 with a backhoe and loader on it that recently purchased. The power steering (generator style) is shot, but the pump is supposedly good. The steering wheel moves in and out quite a bit so I'm thinking the steering valve is shot. I see new steering valves advertised from sparex but was wondering if there was a difference in the valves used with the generator style pumps versus the fan belt driven pumps. If so where can I find a valve.

Posted by Larry Harsin on December 9, 2016, 9:30 am, in reply to "Oliver 550 power steering" 184.21.143.147

I'm not sure just what you are saying. Is the generator shot? Give me a call. 1-712-362-2966. Larry

Posted by Steve on December 9, 2016, 7:36 pm, in reply to "Re: Oliver 550 power steering" 173.215.0.78

Sorry for the confusing post. I think the steering valve in the steering pedestal is shot. It's the old style system that runs off the generator style pump. Imy just not sure if different steering valves were used between early and later model power steering systems on 550s.

Posted by Larry Harsin on December 10, 2016, 7:59 am, in reply to "Re: Oliver 550 power steering" 184.21.143.147

I think hey were all pretty much the same. However, call Kent Gordon in Palestine, TX. He has taken a lot of them apart and will know this. Plus, he may have the parts you need. 903-729-8349. Larry

Cockshutt 1750 PTO Clutch

Posted by Jason on December 6, 2016, 1:51 pm 142.152.181.163

How would I go about replacing the PTO clutch on a Cockshutt 1750? Do I need to split the tractor or can this be reached from behind the PTO shaft? I have a manual on the way but am seeing conflicting info on the web.

Posted by Larry Harsin on December 7, 2016, 8:35 am, in reply to "Cockshutt 1750 PTO Clutch" 184.21.143.147

The PTO clutched can be serviced without splitting the tractor!! When you get the Manual, it will tell you how to do this. Larry

Will the draw bar off a Oliver 70 fit on a super 55 56

Posted by Larry Harsin on December 6, 2016, 8:25 am, in reply to "Draw bar" 184.21.143.147

No. It won't. If you need a drawbar for a S55, call Tom at O'Brien Co. Impl. in Sheldon, IA. 800-228-6224. Or call Kent Gordon in Palestine, TX. 903-729-8349. He has parted out a lot of S55's and 550's. Larry

OLIVER1800 A HYDRA POWER OUT PUT SHAFT SUB ASSYEMBLY QUESTION

Posted by BRYAN FERRARO on December 2, 2016, 9:52 am 99.122.124.73

I have a Oliver 1800A GAS I am restoring. I am currently working on the hydra power. The out put shaft assembly had no spacers or shims in between the 2 bearing inner races when I disassembled it. I believe someone has worked on this unit before. My question, is their expose to be a spacer and shims between inner races as shown in the parts book? or was there a update i'm not aware of? I did purchase the spacer and shims(they fit very loosely around the shaft and there is no guideline, pictures or mention of these spacers in my service manual for assembly.)(unless i'm missing something. (service manual i'm using is #S152) Could you shed some light on this for me.

Posted by Larry Harsin on December 3, 2016, 8:48 am, in reply to "OLIVER1800 A HYDRA POWER OUT PUT SHAFT SUB ASSYEMBLY QUESTION" 184.21.143.147

The spanner nut was put into your tractor when it was built. Your tractor did not come with spacers and shims, but were added later by someone. They were put into the tractors in later years. The ones in your tractor were added sometime when someone was working on it. Give me a call about this. 712-362-2966. Larry

The Fiat Olivers weren't sold in our area and I don't have experience working on them. They are a bit different than the US built Olivers. I don't know who is expert in working on these tractors. Call Ag Parts First in Wooster OH and see if they can help you. 866-264-9720. Larry

Posted by todd on December 1, 2016, 6:33 pm 69.161.87.40 hey Larry I just purchased a super 77 serial number 8 376-702 and spec number 17-1416. from what I can tell it is a 1954 model. is that correct? and is it possible to tell what the gear ratio is by the serial number? mile per hour is very slow in all gears. thanks!!!

Posted by Larry Harsin on December 3, 2016, 8:38 am, in reply to "oliver s77" 184.21.143.147 Yes, it is a 1954. It's possible that it is a special slow-speed rear end. Larry
