Oliver 950 hydraulic electrical hook up questions

Posted by Mark Jarvenpaa on July 30, 2017, 7:45 pm 184.151.36.255

Hello Larry, my fatherinlaw is restoring what we believe to be a 1959 Oliver 950. S/N 79 095-872 Is there any information regarding hydraulic schematics. We are trying to figure out the electrical connections that feed into the hydraulic unit and how they are hooked up. Thank you for any information you may provide. Mark

I would think the Operator's Manual would answer that question. It has a wiring diagram. If you need an Operator's Manual, you can get one from the Floyd Co. Museum in Charles City. 641-228-1099. Larry

Super 55 Diesel

Posted by Carl on July 27, 2017, 1:23 pm 69.84.72.12

I was pulling tree stumps out and working the tractor hard. Couple of time I heard a schreeching sound from the transmission and the clutch would slip. After a couple time a heard a clicking sound coming from the rear end/clutch. Do I have to split the tractor to replace the clutch? What else could it be? thanks for your help.

Yes, the tractor has to be split to replace the clutch if need be. Have you checked the level of lubrication in the transmission lately? Larry

1750 HYDRAULIC

MY 1750 OLIVER HYDRAULIC LEVER ON THE INSIDE WILL NOT HOLD PRESSURE AS SOON AS I RELEASE THE LEVER IT STARTS LEAKING DOWN HOW DO I FIX IT? IS IT THE VALVE INSIDE? THANKS MEL

Posted by Larry Harsin on July 27, 2017, 8:10 am, in reply to "1750 HYDRAULIC" 172.242.140.109

Instead of the spool, it is probably the check valve next to it. If you put a pressure gauge on the outlets, you can determine which one is faulty and go from there. Larry

White 2-60

Posted by Brian on July 25, 2017, 1:08 am 148.177.96.119

I am working on my Uncles White 2-60. He broke one of the steel hydraulic lines, we got it repaired and went ahead and changed the fluid and filter. Now the 3 point will not go up. I have tried everything I can think of to do. I took the lower line off at the pump and it had no fluid in it, so I filled it. Started the tractor and still nothing. I took the upper line off and filled the pump with fluid and still nothing. My Uncle came up with the bright idea to shoot air in the fill hole to force the fluid through and it still will do nothing. I am at a loss of what to do.

Hi, I have a Diesel Oliver 88 I purchased from a family auction to keep in the family. Spec# 88-1689 Ser# 3502683 I'm a mechanic by trade but know nothing about tractors. Is their a chart/info to tell what I have and manuals/options for it? Thanks - Jeff

Re: Oliver 88 ID

Posted by Larry Harsin on July 24, 2017, 7:32 am, in reply to "Oliver 88 ID" 172.242.140.109

You can get copies of an Operator's Manual which will tell you a lot about your tractor. It will have wiring diagrams etc. There is also a Shop Manual you can get that tells you how things go together. There is also a Parts Manual that shows all of the needed parts. You can get all 3 of these Manuals at the Floyd County Museum in Charles City, IA 641-228-1099. Charles City is where the tractors were built. Another thing they have at the Museum is called a Build Card. When the tractor was built, a computer rolled along the assembly line with it. When certain things were put into the tractor, the computer card was punched. The Build Card will tell you interesting things about your tractor. One thing is the Dealership that first sold it. There is charge for a copy of the Build Card and the Manuels, so be prepared to give them the Serial Number of your tractor. Your Serial Number tells me it is a 1953 model. Have fun with your Oliver! Oliver 1850 hydraulic

Posted by Rick on July 22, 2017, 10:38 am 104.255.84.6

My father in-law has an 1850 diesel. The hydraulic remotes don't hardly have enough pressure to lift the head on his haybine but the 3 point will lift a round bale with no problem. Any idea's where to start to fix this?

Re: Oliver 1850 hydraulic

Posted by Larry Harsin on July 24, 2017, 7:12 am, in reply to "Oliver 1850 hydraulic" 172.242.140.109

The first thing to do is to check the pressure at the remotes. plug a pressure gauge into the remote. It should have 1800-1900 lbs. of pressure. Larry

1755 cockshutt wheatland

Posted by Shane on July 21, 2017, 10:42 pm 174.255.135.123

I recently bought a 1755, the owner before replaced a hydraulic hose ( metal) from under floor to steering column, now can't move throttle all the way open, my question is what's the best way to get to the fitting loose, to bend pipe enough to clear the swivel bracket for throttle rod.I took the fitting loose under floor and it kept flowing and lost a lot of hydraulic oil. Thought I could bend from that side (didn't work). I really don't know how they routed it wrong. Can you help me. Thanks.

My 880 oliver quit and I have rebuilt carburetor, new points, condenser, distributor cap and coil. I wired new coil like the old one ignition + side and distributor to - side, but it trys to start and dies then no spark to plugs, the manual shows hooking the ignition wire to neg. side and distributor wire to pos. side. Which is right? Thank you

Iam using the ports on the sides of the seat tower and the tractor levers. is this the proper way to do this or not? could my pump be weak or is there a pressure adjustment setting. 1655 throttle

Posted by Luke on July 16, 2017, 10:28 pm 173.18.89.201

Larry, I have two 1655's that have always sat outsid. They don't get used nearly as much as they used to. The throttles and over under levers have become really hard to move. When you move the throttle the over under lever goes with it. I've sprayed a ton of lubricant in there and also messed with that big tension nut. Nothing seems to help. Is there a way to completely disassemble these levers? Thanks!

Re: 1655 throttle

Posted by Larry Harsin on July 18, 2017, 8:28 am, in reply to "1655 throttle" 172.242.140.109

It is a big job to disassemble those levers, but that may be the way you have to go. They are probably rusted together. Perhaps try something else. Years ago, an old timer recommended putting lard on the rusted spot and letting it seep through. But, surely there is a new product of some kind that would work. Try a different lubricant. Larry

880 oliver diesel

Ive got a frend that has a 880 oliver diesel that he doesn't use alot. He noticed oil level high. He had this about 5 years ago and after talking with one guy, he recommended to replace a seal in the side cover of thr injector pump. I did that and its been good until now. Fuel is getting into the oil again. Is there something else to look for or do i replace the seal again? I believe it is a roosamaster pump. Thanks for your help.

I would say that the power shaft that runs the PTO and the hydraulic has stopped turning and you have either a broken PTO drive shaft in the flywheel area or stripped splines. Larry

550 with a L500H freeman loader

Posted by Roger Wallis on July 7, 2017, 2:34 pm 74.37.238.6

Hello, I am in need of some direction here. I have a 1963 Oliver 550 that I am installing a Freeman L500H loader that came off a Super 55. I think I am missing a bracket that mounts in front or underneath the front end of tractor. Can you steer me in the right direction for this? I can fabricate almost anything, but I would like a picture to see where I need to bolt this bracket. This loader is the tube type Freeman loader not like the yellow heavy thing that I took off my tractor. I did this so I could do maintenance on my tractor without busting my head or knuckles on the frame, etc. Thanks for your help!! Roger Wallis

1550 Diesel Oil in coolant???

Posted by Tom Cooley on July 6, 2017, 3:40 pm 165.225.38.211

Larry, In my "new to me" diesel 1550, I noticed a small amount of oil in the coolant when checking the level before taking her out to bale some hay. I drained and changed the coolant and there was very little oil (About 10cc). Originally, not too worried because only a very little bit of oil, but grew more concerned when i noticed the coolant pressure slightly but constantly blowing past the radiator cap - almost as soon as I start it. It runs pretty good, but do I have a big problem? Thanks, tom

I think you may have a bad head gasket or a cracked engine sleeve. It could even have a possibility of a cracked cylinder head. Larry

Hydraulic return to sump

Hi great site. I'm a new owner of a Oliver 1850 cockshutt withba Perkins diesel. I'm hooking up a Massey 828 round baler and I would like to know where I could plumb the bale tension hyd hose into a return to sump port. Thanks in advance.

I'm assuming you have an Operator's Manual for your tractor. On the left side of the hydraulic unit, near the bottom of the casting, is a plug that can be used for an oil return. I think it is a 3/4 in. pipe thread. Larry

Oliver 77 Rebuild

Posted by William Camp on July 4, 2017, 11:45 am 165.225.36.70

Larry; I'm just finishing a rebuild of my Oliver Super 77 to do some tractor pulling with at local Summer and Fall fairs. I basically took the stock 216ci Super 77 engine, that was starting and ran real well, removed the old head, exhaust and intake manifold, and replaced it with a 1550 Oliver head (has been shaved to increase compression)brand new 1550 exhaust and intake manifolds. I've just finished buttoning everything back together, installed the stock MS carburetor for now (will be replacing with a 1550 carburetor as soon as I can get my hands on one. So set the valves cold at .010 and .016 and tried to fire the engine. The engine has spark and tries to fire but spits and sputters and then dies. I've, cleaned the sediment bowl, drained the gas and am running good 93 Octane fuel through her, have checked and double checked everything and can't figure out why the old girl won't go on and run. It almost seems as if she's starving for fuel. As mentioned prior to making the change she always started on the first roll. Any suggestions on why I'm have difficulties would be appreciated. Bill

1855 locks up in lower gear range

We replaced a broken input shaft, put the tractor back together...we can shift thru 1st,2nd,4th, and R1...but when we pull it down into 5th,6th, R2 and 3rd the tractor locks up...even in neutral. We didn't remove or mess with any of the shifting rails. Just the input shaft and assembly.

1755 3 speed powershift

You do not want to go down hill in Under, you will free wheel! Were you on a flat, going up hill or ? when you tried the under position?

Posted by joe on July 2, 2017, 2:51 pm, in reply to "Re: 1755 3 speed powershift" 98.219.214.170

Being that you free wheel in Under, it is possible that if you were going faster than what under is meant to do you could have been free wheeling on the flat. Try shifting from direct into under going up a hill. Starting for a dead stop in under do you have any problems? If you have no problems there try it again in a higher gear with both brakes on, if it is pulling good you should be able to stall the engine, but you don't need to go that far. You just want to be sure their is no slipping.

I think you should get a gauge and check your hydraulic pressure. It should have 1800 - 2000 lbs. PSI. Larry
