My 1750 diesel rocker arm adjustment screws came loose, do you recommend locktite?

No. I don't. They should be a bit tighter that what yours are, but do not over-tight. Larry

Hi Larry, Do you have any info on the torque specs for a gemmer hydraguide?

No, I don't have the specs. Get an Operator's Manual from the Museum in Charles City. 641-228-1099. Larry

Do you know or have you seen a waukesha straight six 817cu.in. motor In any oliver tractors? Curious if it will fit in any oliver models, Brian

1850 PTO Engagement Lever

IP: 66.230.245.170 Posted on June 29, 2016 at 04:04:24 PM by arnie

I read some where that lever resistance should be approx 40ft lbs. I wonder where and how that is measured. How do the rest of you set the clutch pressure for the pto? Thanks Arnie

Re(1): 1850 PTO Engagement Lever

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on June 30, 2016 at 06:33:38 AM by Larry Harsin

Just set it so that there is a distinct snap when it engages. Use your own judgement about what is 40 ft. lbs., this is just sort of a guideline. For instance, take a torque wrench set at 40 ft. lbs. to get the "feel". Larry

Oliver 1800 Hydra power question

IP: 108.92.41.195 Posted on June 28, 2016 at 02:20:51 PM by BRYAN FERRARO

Larry, I am rebuilding a Oliver 1800 A hydrapower. Hydrapower # 107412A. I want to know if you knew what the plate clutch driven thickness (107-390-A) should be? What thickness should I replace them at (MIN AND MAX TOLERANCES). The one's I have look very good they are not burned and still have that coated color to them . Another question , in your opinion what was the best Oliver tractor built, and why was it the best? Bryan

Re(1): Oliver 1800 Hydra power question

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on June 29, 2016 at 03:11:29 PM by Larry Harsin

The clutch Driven Plate thickness is .120 - .112. The Driving Plate is .067 - .064. The book doesn't give variences. As far as the Olivers, I like all of them! The Oliver 70 is the easiest to work on. Larry

770 hydraulic fluid

IP: 50.81.200.108 Posted on June 27, 2016 at 05:51:45 PM by Mark Armstrong

Hi Larry. I have a 1965 770 with power booster. I saw on your sight that I should use hy-tran fluid in the transmission, so that is what I did when I recently changed the tran fluid. My question is, can I use this same hy-tran as hydraulic fluid as well? If not what do you recommend? Thanks!

Re(1): 770 hydraulic fluid

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on June 29, 2016 at 02:00:27 PM by Larry Harsin

I suppose you could. But I prefer the medium hydraulic fluid, which is like 20 wt. Larry

O-60

IP: 70.198.52.93 Posted on June 24, 2016 at 12:16:21 PM by G wegner

I need to change the sending unit for the temperature gauge. It's been in there since it was new. Doesn't want to budge. Any help you can suggest on getting it out.

Re(1): O-60 IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on June 24, 2016 at 06:24:05 PM by Larry Harsin

You may have to heat it with a torch. Then, you may have to use a six sided 7/8" deep socket to remove that sender. This means you will have to destroy it and put in a new gauge assembly. Larry

1550 throttle

IP: 71.164.69.35 Posted on June 17, 2016 at 08:24:20 PM by Robert Lapage

Well Larry our 1550 diesel tractor throttle will surge forward. I am getting sick and tired of pulling it back to settle it down!!! I did pull of the top panel and tighten the nut down... It cant go any more. Any suggestion on what I can do or replace something?

Re(1): 1550 throttle

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on June 19, 2016 at 06:10:16 PM by Larry Harsin

There is a spring on the left side on the end of the throttle shaft that you worked on. You might try adjusting that. There should be something in the Operator's Manual about this. You may have to put a spring on the throttle linkage down on the side of the engine, if nothing else works. Larry

What can I run in the trans and rear end in my 550. Can I run universal hyd oil in my hyd system instead of engine oil.

Use 80-90 GL 5 Gear Lube. Larry

Oliver 1600 power steering conversion

IP: 162.253.117.11 Posted on June 14, 2016 at 11:57:35 PM by Anders

I have an Oliver 1600 gas with a wide front and manual steering. A char-Lynn torque generator was added years ago aftermarket but is worn out and expensive to replace. What parts would it take to convert it to true power steering? Would parts from a 1x50 or 1x55 series machine work for a swap? The tractor has a loader so power steering is a necessity.

Re(1): Oliver 1600 power steering conversion

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on June 15, 2016 at 07:14:29 AM by Larry Harsin

I think you should stick with the Char-Lynn generator. You can get one from Steiner Tractor Parts in Holly, MI. 800-234-2380. I wouldn't convert it. It will be more expensive than ever. Larry

Oliver 1465

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on June 13, 2016 at 09:12:02 AM by Alan Keith

Hello, My name is Alan Keith, I have an Oliver 1465 that has been sitting in the bushes for at least 8 years. We dragged it out 2 years ago and put it in my garage and am now starting to work on it. My neighbor graciously helped me by pulling it down the road to try to get it to run. The fuel pump works and is pumping the new fuel through the new filter and through the injector pump and back into the tank but it is not getting sent through the high pressure lines to the injectors. I am not sure what to do, could there be an easy fix, or do I need to take the injector pump off and take it to get cleaned? or something else? Any help would be appreciated!!

Re(1): Oliver 1465

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on June 13, 2016 at 09:13:26 AM by Larry Harsin

It sounds like you may have to remove the pump and take it to a pump shop. Larry

Oliver 990

I have about 8 Olivers of different types. I am now trying to get a wiring diagram for a Oliver 990 with 3 cyl GH motor. Wondering if any of your friends could provide one. regards Bill

If you would get an OperatorÕs Manual for your tractor, there would be wiring diagram in it. You can get an OperatorÕs Manual from the Floyd Co. Museum in Charles City IA. 641-228-1099. This manual will tell you many things about your tractor and how to care for it. Larry

880 No oil pressure

IP: 66.87.74.103 Posted on June 12, 2016 at 07:04:05 PM by doug

Hi i have a oliver 880 that my dad put a fresh rebuild in. After he put the kit in, the project got put on the back burner so now i am trying to finish it. I put everything back together and got it running but the oil pump will not pump oil to the filter. I have blown out all the lines took the pump out and did not see anything wrong. (Not that I know what IÕm looking for). From my perspective everything seems to be in working order. Any ideas?

Re(1): 880 No oil pressure

IP: 66.230.245.170 Posted on June 13, 2016 at 05:44:29 AM by arnie

The oil pump is turning or the engine wouldn't run. Check the oil pressure relief valve. Right front side of engine below regulator. Should be a valve and spring.

Re(2): 880 No oil pressure

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on June 13, 2016 at 08:25:07 AM by Larry Harsin

Arnie is correct if the tractor is a gas tractor, but it is not true if the tractor is a diesel. A diesel doesn't have a distributor. So running a diesel like this you could ruin an engine right quick. Larry

770 won't stay running

IP: 166.181.81.65 Posted on June 7, 2016 at 09:44:39 AM by Shawn

Larry I have a 770 Oliver that we have been working on. I put a rebuild kit in the carburetor and it runs a lot better. Problem I have is when it idles for 5 or so minutes the tractor will start to sputter and eventually quit. Could this possibly be a pin hole in the carb float? Any insight would be much appreciated.

Re(1): 770 won't stay running

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on July 18, 2016 at 08:16:56 AM by Larry Harsin

I doubt if it is a pin hole in the carb or the carb would run over. Larry

The original question for the answers below were lost somehow.

Thanks for the Reply Larry, We feel we have a Hydraulic Problem is it possible the Pressure is too High? The pump looks to have been changed before we Got the Tractor.
