One way hydraulic on Super 88

Posted by Kevin Swisher on June 30, 2018, 10:00 pm

I am trying to get a one way cylinder running on the left side. It appears by the books all is set up correctly. I am able to push fluid to raise the cylinder but cannot get the fluid to flow back to lower the cylinder.

You'll will have to get a K2114 and a K2115 spring and plunger to make a momentary restricter. It will go in the cast swivel and return to the reservoir. If you need more info, call mw. 712-362-2966. Larry

JD 7220 relay switch

Posted by lynn cook on June 29, 2018, 10:10 am

I am looking for the schematic diagram for a John Deere 7220 for the electrical system. Specifically for the starter/relay/key switch? Do you know a website where I can access a free PDF to print out for our mechanic? If you can offer any advice I truly appreciate it in advance. We really only need 1 or 2 pages for him to work from.

Thanks so much,

Yes, the 2 radiators will exchange. Larry

1650 Oliver

Posted by Pat Walsh on June 23, 2018, 11:50 am

Couple things. Radiator developed a leak. Pulling turned into a bigger job than planned. It looks like previous owner soldered shroud to radiator. Shroud has screws on the side, so looks to me it should be easily removed. Am I wrong? Ended up taking fan off to get radiator pulled. Also exhaust manifold has large crack along with bad gaskets. Repairing that also. Any recommendations on where to buy replacement.

Re: 1650 Oliver

Posted by Larry Harsin on July 8, 2018, 5:52 pm, in reply to "1650 Oliver"

I do not remove the shroud when I remove the radiator. I just remove the fan and pull the radiator up and out. For parts, I would call Korves 618-939-6681 or Ag Parts first 866-264-9720. Larry

My injection pump seized, and the rebuild required a new pump head shaft. Installed and tractor started fine, but timing is off I believe. Is there a way to determine how to get it timed properly? We marked the gears as we removed the pump, and put it back accordingly.

Super 55 transmission cover removal.

Hi Larry. Need to replace shift forks. After removing the obvious, what problems could I run into on the inside?

Drain your hydraulic reservoir first. When you pull the cover you may break the seal between the pan and the cover.

1755 seat question

Posted by Ron on June 16, 2018, 6:33 pm

I purchased a 1755 and the seat doesn't move up and down what's the most likely problem? I've never had this problem with any of my many Olivers. Thanks

Re: 1755 seat question

Posted by Davd L on July 4, 2018, 5:37 pm, in reply to "1755 seat question"

My 1750 seat had the same problem, on our unit there are torsion bars where the twisting of these bars results in suspension and springiness. They had failed due to rust. I don't think there were very expensive to replace and the seat worked great afterward.

1750 Oliver gas

Posted by Jordan Dyke on June 16, 2018, 4:05 pm

Looking for ideas. Have a 1750 gas Oliver. In road gear (6th) the tractor cuts out and bogs down, (start at 1800 rpm) then after 6-8 seconds comes alive and gets up to speed and rpm but seems to have a miss. Sometimes 4th gear pulling baler. It doesn’t happen all the time though. Doesn’t happen in 1-4th gears if nothing attached. 5th gear every once and awhile but it’s constant in 6th gear. I have replaced the distributor, spark plugs, wires, and gone through carb. Fuel flow is fine. Gone through everything I can think of but no change. Any input?

There was a post a few days ago about the same problems other folks are having. You seem to be describing some of the same things. These complaints are often heat related.

Re: 1750 Oliver gas

Posted by Jordan Dyke on June 19, 2018, 11:59 am, in reply to "Re: 1750 Oliver gas "

Thanks for the reply. I wish it was a heat issue, however, it does this even if the tractor isn’t warmed up to temp. I’ve tried this right after I start it , and same issue. . I am going to try drilling out the jet in the carb one or two sizes to try and get a touch more fuel to it. Some others on other forums believe this could be the issue also. I will post updates this weekend after I get things back together.

Re: 1750 Oliver gas

I would try a few things. First of all, in considering all you have done, your describing an engine that falls on it's face under load and that is most likely going lean. So turn out the high speed load screw more. Next rule out a vacuum leak at the intake to head, spray water on every part of manifold and carburetor or just pull the intake exhaust and put a straight edge on the manifold with the copper gaskets removed. I get mine resurfaced if any are out by .005 or more and its about $80.00. Are your intake valves adjusted on the lose side? How about a higher octane fuel? Just some things to consider,Tom

can a 310 direct injection head be used on a early 1800a 283 diesel block? it originally had a powercell head. i know they are different engines in many ways but is it possible and if so what gasket would be used. and if not why, water passages or something else?

Oliver 1600 Industrial with R.O.T.

Posted by Larry Z on June 11, 2018, 12:19 pm

Good Moring Larry & Sandy

After 10 years or so, I am finally getting back to my Oliver 1600 Industrial with a Reverse-O-Torc drive. The issue back then was transmission fluid emitting from the breather unit when the tractor was only ran for a few minutes – like when moving it across the yard just to get it out of the way. Enclosed is the entire ROT chapter from the Oliver 1600 shop manual. On pages 4&5 under LUBRICATION, the manual mentions two types of dip sticks – bayonet or thermos. I believe I have a bayonet type – see attached pictures; can you confirm this for me? I’m guessing the thermos type is one that has a flip lever on it to lock the dip stick into the ROT housing. On page 4 the manual mentions for the bayonet type dip stick, to ignore the markings and fill to the bottom of the filler opening. (1) If the unit is overfilled (as the manual mentions), wouldn’t the oil just spill out of the opened port? (2) As you continue reading on page 5, the manual says to maintain oil level to “F” mark on dip stick. So which is it – to the bottom of the filler opening (the inside top of the reservoir???), or to the “F” mark on the dip stick? Any feedback on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Larry

P.S. I can send you the manual & pictures in a separate email - please provide.

Posted by Larry Z on June 28, 2018, 3:17 pm, in reply to "Re: Oliver 1600 Industrial with R.O.T."

Thanks Larry for your response. Since my June 11th post, I have continued to work on my 1600 Industrial. I made sure the R.O.T. was bleed thru the plug on top of the oil cooler. I also dis-assembled, cleaned, and re-assembled the forward/reverse pedals. There is a horizontal shaft for the pedals with a key way, and a pawl for each direction that was full of dirt and hard grease. I suspect the unit may have been sticking in either the forward or reverse position, and not coming back to neutral. Maybe this was causing the fluid to spit out the breather. FYI the pedal linkage, as well as linkage at the R.O.T, is different on my R.O.T. unit, then shown in the 1600 parts book. I found the correct parts diagram for my R.O.T. on the AGCO website. The pawls, especially the forward one, have some ware where it sets in the key way when the pedal is pressed. This ware causes the tractor to rev up because the accelerator pedal is also being pressed simultaneously with a forward or reverse pedal. I may need to build up the pawls with a tack weld, or make new ones. Next step is to work the tractor to see if any fluid comes out of the breather.

1750 Gas sucking air?

Posted by Ron on June 10, 2018, 7:50 pm

Larry,
I have a 1750 gas that runs fine until it gets hot then it starts spitting and sputtering until it stalls. If I leave it set for a bit it will start and repeat the problem. If I limit the rpms to around 1200 - 1500 it doesn't have many issues. I cut the fuel line and put on a piece of clear vinyl line and can see air bubbles. I checked all the fittings. Is the fuel perculating? whats the best way to deal with this? Thanks Larry.
Ron

Re: 1750 Gas sucking air?

Posted by Arnie on June 13, 2018, 6:17 am, in reply to "1750 Gas sucking air?"

We have two 1850 gas tractors that have the same problem. We found gas without any alcohol. That helped some. But rerouting the fuel lines away from the engine block helped even more. We eliminated the mechanical fuel pump (if your 1750 has one) and installed an electrical pump with 3-4 lbs of pressure. BUT if it is a VERY hot day and the tractor is being worked hard it can "vapor lock". Then just shut it off, have a cool beer and wait it out. Good luck..Arnie

Re: 1750 Gas sucking air?

Posted by Tom Rowe-Drake on June 14, 2018, 9:08 am, in reply to "Re: 1750 Gas sucking air?"

Another thing to consider is that when the tractor was new it did not vapor lock. So, what's changed? My first thought is the radiator has less cooling capacity. It's either blocked ( from oil ,grease or dirt & organic mater ) on the outside or it's flow ( gallons per minute ) is restricted on the inside. Also does it have the proper thermostat? In the car business we would also rap the fuel lines with aluminum foil when we suspected a vapor lock problem.

Re: 1750 Gas sucking air?

Posted by arnie on June 14, 2018, 12:03 pm, in reply to "Re: 1750 Gas sucking air?"

When that tractor was new we didn't fuel with alcohol. It turns to vapor much quicker than raw gas. Wraping the fuel line with foil is the same as rerouting the fuel lines. You eliminate the heat source. Another old time trick was to add several wooden spring loaded clothes pins the fuel line near the heat source. They acted as a heat sink. I often wondered how effective they were.

Re: 1750 Gas sucking air?

Posted by Tom Rowe-Drake on June 14, 2018, 12:44 pm, in reply to "Re: 1750 Gas sucking air?"

There is a small airport near me where I can purchase 105 octane leaded fuel. Maybe the first thing to do in that situation is to try aviation fuel to confirm the alcohol effect.

Re: 1750 Gas sucking air?

Posted by Larry Harsin on June 15, 2018, 8:44 am, in reply to "Re: 1750 Gas sucking air?"

All of the above answers are possible. Another thing I do is remove the engine side panels in hot weather so that the heat gets away from the fuel tank. Larry

550 remote hydraulics

Posted by roger wallis on June 8, 2018, 11:42 am

Hello Larry,
I have a 1963 550 in need of some remote hydraulics for a light duty loader. I have a remote valve with an adjustable relief valve(will set to 1500 or 1700psi?). I am plumbing to the lift cover. There is a 1/4 pipe port just right of the filter housing, that I think I can use for pressure and a 3/8 pipe port just back and above this 1/4" pipe port, that I can use as return. I will tap and plug the ports behind the little triangular cover so I can use these other ports. This will make my hose routing cleaner, I think? Will this work for me before I get too involved in running my hoses? As always, thank you for your help!

I think you can make it work, but the gal. per minute is on the low side from this system. A front driven pump is most desirable for this application. Larry

trying to run hoelscher accumulator model 1000 on my 1850 diesel 540 pto dual remotes tractor, using left side remotes, as looking at rear of tractor. only way i can make accumulator function is holding the handle in the on/fwd position, but this causes the pump to make noise when no hydraulics are functioning, when bales trip levers on accumulator noise goes away all works great till dead time between accumulator functions?
