Oliver 77d block

IP: 204.12.187.196 Posted on March 29, 2016 at 09:19:52 PM by Eric allen

I had a leaky head gasket and pulled the head. I found the rear oil passage Bolt threads are stripped out into the block. What do you recommend as the best fix? Thanks.

You may have to get another block. It would be worth a try to use heli-coil on that. Your NAPA store or an automotive supply store should have that heli-coil for repairs. A repairman from and automotive or machine shop could explain about heli-coil. Larry

Any concern about getting shavings down the oil hole? Where does that oil passage go? Could I remove the pan and back flush it?

Re(3): Oliver 77d block

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on March 31, 2016 at 07:24:00 AM by Larry Harsin

Yes. A small magnet would help when you do the heli-coil. The oil comes in from the rear main and goes onto the rocker arms. Get the shavings out and maybe put some solvent down in there and that should do it. I think removing the pan etc is a waste of time. The solvent and the magnet should do it. Larry

1550 power needle

Still trying to figure the old girl out. Found a old mechanic and he went through everything. Checked and replaced everything that needed doing on the electrical . The problem were still having is that when you open it up it stalls out. Looking at the carburetor he thought the opening for the gas on the tip of the power needle to be to small. Got to checking even though there different carburetor the 550 and 1550 share the same power needle I was wondering if that's what is causing it to stall out? Would you have a original power needle or know someone that has one thank

Try removing the power jet from the bowl casting of the carb. This limits the amount of fuel that can get down to the adjusting needle. In this same situation, I have discarded this power jet and it has helped. Larry

Wish there was a picture but in my itt book it's chapter 89 and no pictures. What I'm questioning is the adjustment needle where the gas goes through into the carburetor that opening looks small and I was wondering if there being used on both 550 and 1550 maybe it's to small and not delivering enough gas to be mixed with air . It cuts out when you try and open it up. I just noticed that they list both power jet and economizer jet I wonder what's the difference it been nice if they had put a picture in Thanks Larry

1800 A checkerboard, with an 1850 hydrolic unit

I had a 1850 hydrolic/ rockshaft put on my 1800 series A checkerboard tractor. With a new gear cut the right way, it fit right on, but now the 3 point lever will not stay where you put it, it automatically goes to the up position when you let go, but as soon as you shut off the tractor the 3 point arms drop down as low as they can go even with the lever in the up position. It also leaks hydrolic oil into the rearend like crazy. Not sure if it's that o ring in there, but it sure leaks down fast. Lastly the scvs have so much pressure, you can barley hook up or disconnect the hydrolic hoses. It has plenty of lift power now, but I sure miss having things working like they should. 1850 diesel. Other day put in gear. Tractor moved a little stopped and heard a grinding sound. Tried all other gears. Fleet like a positive engagement on shifter but no motion of tractor and just grinding sound. Shut off restarted and transmission started working again as normal. Any thoughts on what is wrong. Thanks for your help.

Re(1): 1850 transmission

It could be something wrong in the top cluster on the input shaft. Possibly worn splines where the drive sprocket drives the input shaft also. Larry

Re(1): Oliver 2255

IP: 98.21.22.14 Posted on March 1, 2016 at 09:26:12 PM by Clint Bauer

If you have float valves you can get the O-rings and seals through Agco . The float valves will always leak down slowly they do not have poppets to seal off the oil they depend on the tightness of the valve spool in the housing to hold the oil so there is always a little seepage past the spool. The detent valves will hold for a very long time if the poppets are good .

You are going to have to take it apart and clean it up. It will then have to be put back the way it was before you started. Larry

1850 transmission

1850 diesel. Other day put in gear. Tractor moved a little stopped and heard a grinding sound. Tried all other gears. Fleet like a positive engagement on shifter but no motion of tractor and just grinding sound. Shut off restarted and transmission started working again as normal. Any thoughts on what is wrong. Thanks for your help.

It could be something wrong in the top cluster on the input shaft. Possibly worn splines where the drive sprocket drives the input shaft also. Larry

I'd check the Operator's Manual about blocking out the draft control when mowing. There is a stop bolt that is to be screwed out against the seat bracket. Larry

1855 PTO shaft

IP: 69.10.126.72 Posted on March 2, 2016 at 09:02:21 AM by David Acorn

Had to replace the 60" long shaft because original one's teeth were wore out. After installing the new one the clutch wont engage and shaft is not turning. What did I do wrong?

I don't know what you did wrong. It should be evident. Maybe the hub up in the engine fly wheel is worn, too. Larry
