1965 1650 clutch dragging
Posted by Ted on May 29, 2017, 9:54 pm 24.165.216.36
The clutch on my 1650 is dragging, even with the linkage adjusted to the point it is almost riding on the throw out bearing. The clutch engages fully with the pedal maybe 1.5 inches off the floor. Would drilling another hole lower on the clutch release arm be an option?

Possibly, but you might have something wrong on the inside on the pressure plate. You may have one of the fingers on the pressure plate that has either a broken bolt or linkage or something. Larry
white oliver 2 62 15
Posted by dan daniel on May 28, 2017, 10:10 am 71.9.191.148 Forgive me if i am in the wrong place, as i am new to tractors. I recently bought a 2/62/15 mighty hoe. The forward and reverse (hydro torque) have a lot of hesitation, especially reverse. I discovered the fluid very low, replenished it with the mercon/dextron and still no effect. I then replaced the filter, no effect. The shaft the pedals ride on is worn as well as the arm that runs from the pivot are to the actuator. They are all worn but i dont believe they are the cause.....any insight into this problem with the "hyrdo torque" transmittion would be very helpful.

Larry, I have a 1650 that recently started bleeding off at the 3 pt arms. It holds fine while running, but will not hold over night. What seal or o-ring should look to replace?

It is probably going to be the 3-pt. lift piston, the O ring and back-up washer. This condition you describe is not out of the ordinary and I would be reluctant to take it apart for that. Larry

Oliver 1800 hydraulic pump
Posted by Troy on May 17, 2017, 11:38 am 107.77.89.87
Hello, I got asked to help work on a friends 1800, he said all of his hydraulics are very sluggish not jerky due to low fluid just slow. So before I make the trek over to his home this weekend I wanted to build a pressure tester with a high pressure gauge. My question is what is the test port hole size on the hydraulic pump and is that the best way to get an accurate reading of the output pressure?

oliver 1650 diesel stuck in reverse
Posted by steve mohr on May 17, 2017, 10:29 am 72.173.139.29
Hello. I've had my Oliver for 22 years. What a reliable work horse. The other day I was hooking up a implement and she got stuck in reverse. I took the shifter out and was able to inspect some of the gears and the shifter rails. No visible signs of damage, plenty of lubricant. My I.T. manual shows a exploded view of the transmission. I read on some web sites the reverse gear gets seized on the bushing. My questions are do you have a picture of the transmission and can the gear be accessed through the shifter plate and if you have any suggestions or tricks? Thank you, Steve Mohr, Shoshone, Idaho

I don't think the reverse gear is seized on the bushing, especially if the oil level is correct. I would be more inclined to look for wear in the shifting mechanism. Even possibly a loose shift fork. Larry

Oliver 550 Cooling System and Power Steering
Posted by Ed Haertel on May 8, 2017, 4:24 pm 184.5.108.246
I have a late '63 550 (2-44? - it once was painted yellow) diesel. Specification # 55-7208, SN 140 57X The cooling system has been overheating recently when using the bush hog and I'm taking it to my mechanic to see about cleaning the radiator, checking the thermostat and water pump. One source I read states that the 550 has a 4 pound pressure system, but there is no way the cap I have on the tractor is a pressure cap. It fits the filler, but only has a rubber gasket (no spring pressure release etc.). Looks like maybe my radiator was replaced with an earlier 55's non-pressure radiator, or would non-pressure be right for it? I also have a power steering system which leaks about a full quart per use. This is really recent (within the last week). Probably a hose leak, they are getting old. I replaced one of the booster cylinders last year (ouch!) and I don't know what type pump I have. It definitely is not a gear drive off the generator, there's no generator any longer, it has an alternator. I think it is a belt drive pump, but in my 70s and with a front loader to deal with, I'm going to let the mechanic fool with it. In both cases, I would like to have an idea of the damages up front if I have to replace the radiator and/or the power steering pump. Either one will certainly be less expensive than another tractor (the days of inexpensive good used tractors, like used cars, are gone). Thanks for any input. Ed

You are going to have to figure out what is going on. The radiator is going to have to be cleaned, probably. And a mechanic is going to have to figure out what is wrong with the hydraulic. Larry
1650 loader hydraulics leaking down
Posted by Brian Jones on May 7, 2017, 10:28 am 74.199.92.15
Good Morning Larry, I have a 1650 with a front end loader. The lift works fine, but when the bucket has a load in in it won't hold its position, it only takes 30 seconds or so for it to dump itself out. The local hydraulic shop checked out the cylinders and they look OK. I bought a shop manual to see what I could learn about the controls, but I was in way over my head with the technical aspects of the manual. Any dumbed down advice for a amateur? Thanks, Brian

There are some thermal relief valves that need to be replaced. They are located on the cast iron lid for the hydraulic system right next to the control spools. You can determine which one it is by the outlet that doesn't hold pressure. Larry

232 diesel

Larry, I have a 232 waukesha that runs but has a lot of blow by. I want to sell it to someone to be rebuilt and I don't know what would be a fair price to ask for it so I thought you would be the one to ask about this. It run good and I have video of it running just before I pulled it out of my backhoe. Like I said it had a lot of blow by and the oil pressure was good (around 25 psi when at 800 RPM's) so I'm sure the crank should be good without having to line bore it and it was not knocking. With this information I hope you can give me a fair appraisal to ask for it. I also have everything from another 232 but the block and the crank witch I scraped because it did spin a bearing but the head, injector pump, injectors, both manifolds, oil pan, oil pump, and valve cover are in good shape and I would like to sell all of these parts. If you know of someone who would buy all of this I would make them a race horse deal. So with all that said if you could help me with the for the motor and someone that would like to buy them I would be so thankful and i'm sure if anyone is looking for a 232 they would be too because we both know how hard these motors are to find. Thanks, Jerry

Lived in the city all my life. We bought an acreage and an Oliver 1650 came with it. Getting kind of late in the game to be learning about something entirely new but I'm trying. I did learn enough to be able to check fluid levels. Found the transmission fluid is low. What kind of fluid should I be adding to bring it up to the proper level.
