Adding another remote for loader on Oliver super 88 Diesel Posted by Bill Gray on November 29, 2016, 9:16 pm 72.168.160.47

I have dual remotes on my super 88. One is used for the three point and I use the other for implements. Is it possible to add another remote for a loader and bucket. I need a third remote to operate both the lift on the loader and the tilt for the bucket without having to disconnect the three point. Thanks.

You could work with the power beyond and run that to a loader valve and still use your hydraulic as is. Larry

Where is the power beyond located?

Posted by Larry Harsin on December 4, 2016, 8:45 am, in reply to "Re: Adding another remote for loader on Oliver super 88 Diesel"

On a S88, there is a pipe plug located on the left front corner of the hydraulic base plate. It is a 1/2" pipe plug. You remove that pipe plug and look in there with a flashlight, you will find a threaded passage that needs a 3/8" socket head pipe plug to block it. Then, you attach a hose to the 1/2" hole and take that oil up to your loader valve. The outlet from the loader valve is plumbed back to the 3/8" hole on the front of the hydraulic filter. Larry

Super 77 Posted by Arnie on November 28, 2016, 12:52 pm 66.230.245.170

I am getting a S77 back in service for a nabor. It has had several mechanics since it was new and they all left their mark. There is a terminal on the regulator marked "L" The wire that had been attached to it had been removed and taped up. The headlight switch is a single position after market and the other end of that wire was laying loose behind the dash and not attached to the light switch. The power for the light switch was fused to the back of the amp meter. It all worked. my question is how important is it to reestablish the original wiring? Thanks..Arnie

Posted by Larry Harsin on November 29, 2016, 8:25 am, in reply to "Super 77"

If it works, I would leave it alone. Otherwise, get an Operator's Manual from the Museum and put it back the way it was built. The Operator's Manual will have a wiring diagram in it. Larry

1550 pto Posted by Randy on November 27, 2016, 9:31 pm 208.126.203.4

I recently purchased a 1550 row crop gas. It had been sitting for about a year. Tractor runs good, but the pto will not shut off. I removed the pto cover and loosened the clutch cap screws, but turning the pto shaft with a wrench still turns the engine. Does the entire pto unit need to be removed, or can it still just be warped clutch discs?

Posted by Larry Harsin on November 29, 2016, 8:14 am, in reply to "1550 pto"

It can be warped clutch discs. Check the clutch discs and the center plate. Also, there are 3 little springs that open up the clutch when it is released. They are about an inch long. They may need to be replaced. The entire PTO unit does to have to be removed. Larry

hydralic oil leak Posted by Dean Detloff on November 25, 2016, 9:18 pm 45.52.253.221 I have a 770 Oliver that is leaking the hydralic oil into the rear end. What is the easiest way to solve this problem? I have the rear end drained, what's the best fluid to put back in?

Posted by Larry Harsin on November 29, 2016, 8:09 am, in reply to "hydralic oil leak"

You will probably have to put new seals and berrings in the hydraulic pump. If your tractor has Power Booster, use Mobil-Trans HD 50 in the transmission & rear in. It takes about 5 gal. If it doesn't have Power Booster, use 90 weight gear lube. Larry

If it is a gas, it should be a 265. If it is a diesel it should be a 283. Larry

Oliver 88 power steering Posted by Tim Denowh on November 21, 2016, 11:32 am 67.142.179.24

I am looking for a double groove crank pulley for my model 88 gas. I want to power a power steering pump from the front groove so to keep it separate from the fan belt. Any direction you can give is much appreciated for where to find or if I will need to manufacture what I need. Thank you.

Posted by Larry Harsin on November 22, 2016, 10:49 am, in reply to "Oliver 88 power steering "

I have a double groove pulley. It will require the narrower belts like the S88 will use. If your tractor hasn't been changed over to the narrower belt, I do have a water pump pulley so you can change it over. Give me a call. 712-362-2966 Larry

1963 oliver 1600 diesel Posted by Chris Lowder on November 18, 2016, 2:19 pm 107.77.104.96 Thanks for all your help so far! Got 2 questions for you: #1 - is there anything special about taking there steering wheel off my tractor? It's got the telescopic steering column and all the nuts are off, just can't get the wheel off? #2 - I've found a cab in decent shape with all good glass for $250 but it's off an 1855. Will it fit my 1600? Thanks again for all the great info!

Re: 1963 oliver 1600 diesel Posted by Larry Harsin on November 19, 2016, 7:31 am, in reply to "Re: 1963 oliver 1600 diesel"

On the steering wheel, pry the plastic cap off and take that little 1/2" nut out. Then, that little chrome hand wheel should come right off. Then, you can pull the steering wheel right out with the shaft right on it. 2. The platform is different, but you should be able to adapt it with a little fabrication. Larry

1963 oliver 1600 diesel Posted by chris lowder on November 14, 2016, 8:24 pm 67.140.37.171

I'm leaking fuel bad at the end of the metal line coming from the fuel bowl where it screws on to the priming pump. I took it off and it looks like there's an o-ring or rubber bushing in there that's almost gone. The line's not flared so what do I need to fix that? Also, I've got both nuts off and nothing left on top of the steering wheel but can't seem to get it off. What's the trick? It's got the telescopic steering and it's power too. Thanks in advance! Chris

thanks for the info! I got the steering wheel off along with the short piece of shaft. When I tried to separate the 2 (b/c I'm going to put a new steering wheel on it), I buggered up the threaded end by trying to knock it thru beating on it with a brass hammer. I didn't mess the threads up, but instead, it fattened or flared out the end of the threads so now there's no way to screw the nut back on it. Any way to fix this, or does anybody sell that little shaft piece? I hope I haven't messed up big time! Thanks!

Also this is the tractor my oldest son was taught to drive by his grandpa. I am looking for a toy tractor to give him for Christmas are you aware of any for sale thank you for your help.

Kent Gordon in Palestine, TX has the parts for a S55. 903-729-8349. As for a toy S55, check with the Museum in Charles City, IA 641-228-1099. They probably have a toy one. They have several of the Oliver toy tractors and many other Oliver things to sell. Larry

Changing fluids in Model 1800 Oliver Posted by Henry Langston on November 16, 2016, 7:03 pm 72.168.144.221

I could use some guidance in changing the transmission and hydraulic fluid in a Model 1800 Oliver tractor. I recently obtained the tractor and was advised that I should check these fluids. It looks as though they might not have been changed in a long time. Both are very thick and black. I have basically three questions. (1) There are two drain plugs on the bottom side of the frame. One is located just about under the shift lever while the other is located more towards the rear. To get to the rear one you have to remove the tow bar. My question here is the front plug draining the transmission while the rear plug will drain the hydraulic fluid? (2) I want to make sure that I am doing it right. The fill plug for the hydraulic fluid is located right below the seat while the fill plug for the transmission is located at the back of the frame just about the PTO. Correct? (3) For the hydraulic fluid will the use of a universal hydraulic fluid be alright, if not what fluid should I be using? I believe the manual states that about 32 quarts of fluid are needed. The transmission fluid. Can I use a 90 weight oil here or is there some fluid that I should use?

Re: Changing fluids in Model 1800 Oliver Posted by Larry Harsin on November 18, 2016, 9:21 am, in reply to "Changing fluids in Model 1800 Oliver"

The transmission has 2 compartments. You need to drain both places. these are for the gear lube only. 2. There is also a filler cap near the gear shift lever on some of the later 1800's. The earlier 1800's have level plugs on the left side of the trans. where you can fill them to their level. It depends on what series 1800 you have. You really need to get an Operator's Manual for this tractor. Get one from Museum in Charles City 641-228-1099. 3. Use 80-90 GL5 in the transmission. Use Med-non-foaming hydraulic oil in the hydraulic. To drain the hydraulic oil from the tractor, disconnect one of the hydraulic hoses and with the tractor running, pump it out into a pail. Larry

Oliver 1850 diesel won't start Posted by Larry Mason on November 15, 2016, 4:53 pm 75.100.218.23 tractor always started easily, but sat for a month. Turns over nicely, but no smoke from stack. Decided to change the 2 fuel filters and bleed the lines. Bled the low pressure side as the manual said and when cracking the bleed screws on the injector pump fuel would immediately flow. Still wouldn't start. Loosened the fittings at the 6 injector nozzles and cranked. No fuel coming out of the fittings. Suggestions as to what the problem is?

Re: Oliver 1850 diesel won't start Posted by Larry Harsin on November 16, 2016, 7:02 am, in reply to "Oliver 1850 diesel won't start"

Apparently the injection pump isn't pumping fuel. Larry

Seriel year model Posted by Anthony Rich on November 14, 2016, 7:10 pm 108.249.236.251 Hi, My name is Anthony Rich. My grandfather was an Oliver dealer back from the 50s-70s and a White dealer through the mid 80s.I recently bought an Oliver 550 from his estate auction that has been sitting for about 10 years.I am trying to determine what year model it is from the seriel number, but am having trouble understanding it. There seems to be a couple of different numbers that I can make out. (60594 519 and 35-0024)Can you tell me what they mean? It would be a very good start to what I hope turns into me restoring this tractor.Any info you could give me would be most helpful. Thank you very much for any help.

Re: Seriel year model Posted by Larry Harsin on November 15, 2016, 8:33 am, in reply to "Seriel year model"

The serial number is 60 594 built in 1958. The other number is a specification number. We have no info on those. The Museum in Charles City has a Build card for this tractor. The Build Card is from a computer that rolled along the assembly line with the tractor. It was punched when things were put into the tractor. For a fee, you can get a copy of this Build Card. 641-228-1099. Larry

1953 Oliver 77 Posted by Kevin Coers on November 14, 2016, 1:26 pm 74.44.219.94

first i'd like to thank you for having this page. I refer to your answers ocassionaly. I bought a 1953 Oliver 77, I was messing with it and opened the distributor up and found that it had 2 sets of points on the inside. The condensor is attached to the distributor on the outside. It is an AC Delco distributor, is this something that was cobbled up by someone or was there an update at some time to change it this way.

I think it is something that someone has changed in the tractor. It is not the way it was made. Larry

we have one of these... serial number and i have looked in many places is 809294, or 309294. wondering what it is worth... i am still researching it. i do have a buddy in the tractor mower biz, he will be out of town for a time. it has the tires, not sure if flat free, it has the word Oliver going top to bottom in front o l i v e r i do not see many like that. it was made at the Charles city Iowa olive farm equipment Co. am looking to sell, but am not in a hurry. unless a good offer came along. it needs the new paint, my nephew did try to work on it, added a part, then my father got sick and well it is not my hobby?. it has rust, been sort of a decoration, but it has all the markings could be either 1935/37. please let me know it would be a great help! the hart parr works is the name of the company, it is not in working condition...however another take on the back tires... they look pretty good... i think i saw something about 90 size tires in the back?if that means very large in size they are, and they actually seem in very good shape... the front not much tread, but it seems like they may be like that. they are about three feet apart or so in front, it shows a pull tool in the back. i think the metal although rusted is not in to bad of shape... there is not a cover surrounding the engine, and it has a large wheel looking mechanical device that sits on the right side of the drivers seat. my uncle was a huge fan, rebuilt engines from way way back... early 1900s.. course he was also integral in helping build the aquaducts in the north west oregon area to.lots of tinkerers in the family...sorry for the typing, on a difficult device...

The serial number is 309294. It is an Oliver 70 Standard built in 1944. I have no idea as to it's value. I would contact an auctioneer in your area and get an estimate of price. Larry

Oliver 660 Hydraulic Pump Drive Shaft Seals Leaking Posted by Tom on November 10, 2016, 11:17 am 173.242.81.7

The hydraulic pump driveshaft seals on my Oliver 660 are allowing hydraulic fluid to drain from the hydraulic oil reservoir into the transmission/rear axle housing. If I fill the hydraulic pump oil reservoir with hydraulic fluid, after a few weeks the hydraulic pump oil reservoir is empty and oil is leaking out from a rear axle shaft seal. I have the hydraulic pump taken off the tractor but I can't find any tractor parts source that sells these hydraulic pump seals for an Oliver 660. There aren't any manufacturer part numbers on the seals so it's not possible to cross reference a seal number. The hydraulic pump consists several castings that are assembled together. One seal is on casting number K2042A and the other seal is on casting number K2044. Does anyone know of a tractor parts source for these seals? The seals look like they are typically shaft seals that would probably be available from a seal manufacturer if it was known what seal number was needed. Does anyone know if there is a way to cross reference the hydraulic pump seals to seal that is available from a seal manufacturer such as Timken? Thanks.

OC-4 fuel pump Posted by Mike Schenck on November 7, 2016, 11:40 am 64.20.106.52

I have a '59 OC-46 gas that has some fuel pump issues. It looks to be an original AC Delco pump w/ sediment bowl. I am hoping to find a kit locally, or a different pump if needed. My question is, what is the fuel pressure range and flow requirements? I am not opposed to making a block off plate and installing an electric as function is my objective. I see that Mr. Zimmerman has a kit for it, but am hoping for other options. Also, I wanted to say thank you for all the information you keep on this site.
