1850 oliver hydraulics

I have an 1850 oliver and loader is weak on it and don't believe it would lift a bale, also when you try steering when you start it it won't steer until you move tractor. I did change filter but it didn't help.

You need to get a pressure gauge and check the pressures. If it doesn't have at least 1500 lbs. the pump is probably weak. You can add shims to the relief valve, but I'm guessing that you probably have a weak pump. Larry

Oil filter for Oliver 70

IP: 75.170.199.76 Posted on September 29, 2013 at 01:38:20 PM by Clay McNaughton

Larry, I posted a message some time ago regarding low oil pressure on an Oliver 70 that I own. You replied to change oil and go to a heavier weight which is what I'm doing. I have discovered another problem with this tractor now. I started the tractor to let it warm up in order to drain the oil. I checked the filter several times and noticed it was not getting warm even though the tractor had attained operating temperature. I drained the oil and removed the filter and there was absolutely no oil in the filter. What do you suggest to look at first? I haven't done anything yet, I thought I better run this one by you. Thanks!

Check to see if the feed lines to the filter are plugged. Blow them out with a compressor. Larry

Will do, thanks Larry. Another question, I'm going to pull an Oliver 77 diesel engine out and I need to know what the engine weighs approximatley. I've got a friend who has a cherry picker but it is rated at 900 lbs. Is that enough or do I need a bigger one? Thanks!!

Got another question for you. I've got the brakes off of this 77 and they need some work. Who can turn down the drums and realign the brake bands? I assume someone like Arnold Motor can. Also the seals have been leaking. It looks like changing them is fairly straightforward. Do you recommend changing them? I know sometimes on older equipment trying to get perfectly dry seals is an effort in futility. Thanks Larry.

IP: 184.21.185.185 Posted on October 2, 2013 at 08:29:40 AM by Larry Harsin

About 900 lbs is what it weighs. The Cherry picker should be able to do it. I would put new seals in it. Arnolds should be able to machine the drums. And they should be able to do the seals too, Larry

880 oil seal

3 point hitch won't work

IP: 166.147.104.158 Posted on September 20, 2013 at 08:18:17 PM by Dave B

I would appreciate any information possible. I have a 1963 1800 Oliver C. I was mowing some hey with a leaky cylinder on a hey conditioner. I was about done so I finished up I lost the power steering. I ended up putting about a gallon a half to two gallons of hydraulic fluid to get it back to level. I had to work the power steering back and forth for several minutes to get it to work. But I noticed the next day the 3 point hitch arms were down. I cannot get them to go up or down its like there is air in the system is that the problem?everything on it worked fine before the hydraulic fluid got low I hope it is an easy fix any information would be helpful thank you.

IP: 184.21.185.185 Posted on September 23, 2013 at 08:59:52 PM by Larry Harsin

I would try working the remote levers back and forth with the engine running about 2/3 throttle. The idea being to flush out something in the servo valve that is causing it to stick. Larry

Oilver Super 88 oil flow

I was trying to find an oil flow diagram for the Oliver Super 88 diesel engine. I am not getting any oil to the top side of the engine. Any help would be appreciated.

The oil flow to the top of the engine is done through the back main. Be sure there is an oil hole in the top bearing shell. Larry

HELLO SIR, I HAVE A 1950-T I HAVE FARMED WITH SINCE 2000. THIS SPRING WHILE DISKING HAD A PISTON LET LOOSE. IT DID NOT COME THRU THE BLOCK BUT THE MOTOR IS FULL OF METAL. TWO QUESTIONS. CAN I FIND A 310 WAUKESHA INTACT?, OR CAN AN ENGINE WITH THIS ISSUE BE SUCCESSFULLY REBUILT? THANK YOU FOR ANY IDEAS YOU MAY HAVE. CHUCK

Re(1): 310 WAUKESHA

I have an engine block for a 1950 T, if you need it. Yes, you can clean the metal out if it is all o.k. But if you need a block, I have one. You'll have to decide if it can be rebuilt. Larry

880 engine change

IP: 69.158.64.139 Posted on September 9, 2013 at 02:04:49 PM by Don

Hi Larry. Will a 1650 Diesel engine fit into my 880? I am looking for an engine that will match the existing engine mounts. What other changes are required? Thanks. Don

Re(1): 880 engine change

IP: 184.21.185.185 Posted on September 9, 2013 at 09:43:09 PM by Larry Harsin

A 1650 diesel will bolt in. You will need a different air cleaner. Throttle linkage may need to be adjusted some. You'll have to adapt the radiator a little, but that is doable. Larry

Hydraulic plow

IP: 68.40.94.222 Posted on September 8, 2013 at 08:27:54 PM by Jeremy

I have a hydraulic reset plow. Do you know anyway to get rid of all the cylinders lines and accumulator etc. and stil make plow functional? I was thinking to bolt in metal pipes where cylinders are now and add shear bolts on bottoms so it still has a trip function. Any ideas? I know buying a different plow would be ideal. Thank you

Re(1): Hydraulic plow

IP: 184.21.185.185 Posted on September 9, 2013 at 07:16:16 AM by Larry Harsin

1850 diesel : oil pump looses prime

IP: 100.42.80.203 Posted on September 8, 2013 at 08:38:58 AM by Dennis Hammer

hi Larry, I have an 1850, Perkins Diesel. Am having trouble with the engine oil pump loosing prime. Have taken the oil pump out of the block and run it in a pail of oil ,with a drill. Seems to pump plenty of oil and pressure. Oil pressure is always a little slow comming up on the dash gauge but it runs at 40 to45 psi. Checked the pump with a feeler gauge and know it is warn out of specks but why will it work ok but loose its prime ? Replaced o rings on all the lines. Could only get it to work by filling pump with oil and reinstalling . Have been using 15-40 oil. Tried pouring oil in filter , and cooler lines but that did not work.

1750 hydraulics

IP: 68.68.237.190 Posted on September 7, 2013 at 10:00:48 PM by Vincent

I have a 1750 I recently bought at a auction, when I tried to use the hydraulic remotes there was a clicking noise. When used on a single acting cylinder it will work, when used on a double acting cylinder there appears to be pressure in both lines and not allowing the ram to move. Any ideas what may be wrong?

Re(1): 1750 hydraulics

IP: 184.21.185.185 Posted on September 8, 2013 at 07:27:49 AM by Larry Harsin

There are adjustments on the unit to be made for single or double acting. Get an Operator's Manual so you know what to do. Get the Manual from the Museum in Charles City. 641-228-1099. Larry

Changing rear tire on Oliver 1855

IP: 70.194.5.187 Posted on September 5, 2013 at 09:42:52 AM by Jerry Shannon

I have to swap out a rear tire on my Oliver 1855. Plan on doing this myself. I have a mounted tire on a rim ready to swap on. Question is this. Are there steps to take when taking tire off? Do you have to take the U bolt off as well as the wheel nuts to get tire off? I know this is sound stupid but i have changed many semi truck tires but never an Oliver Tractor Tire. And yes I know how heavy it is as it is also filled with Chloride. Thanks Larry.

Re(1): Changing rear tire on Oliver 1855

IP: 184.21.185.185 Posted on September 6, 2013 at 07:38:53 AM by Larry Harsin

If the lug bolts for the rim clamps face out, the rims should come off of the center cast without having to take anything else off. If the rim clamps that hold the rim to the cast are on the inside, then you will have to pull the whole assembly off before you can get the rim off of the cast. As you say, that tire (wheel) is very heavy with the fluid in it. Have someone else around in case it ends up on top of you. Larry

Hello Larry. I am painting and restoring my 1855 Diesel. I ordered a pair of lights for the fenders. My model has one per fender. When I got the tractor the rear light and tail light were there and working but not the fender lights. Where can I get the concave rings and washer that attaches the light to the fender nacell? You can get lights from several places but cannot find the rings and washer that the light attaches to in the fender? Thank you very much. I need 2 sets.

coolant leak on gas 1550

Hi, I am suddenly leaking coolant from near where the fan shaft exits the motor it is a good volume. It seems like there is a tiny hole at the bottom of the assembly where the shaft exits the motor, and that is where the coolant is squirting out. It is my only tractor. What can I do?Probably the water pump is my culprit, learn as I go I guess.
