Oliver 3 point stuck in up position

IP: 104.129.196.115 Posted on September 30, 2015 at 09:54:07 AM by Shanon

My oliver 1600 tractors 3 point is still stuck in up position. You had mentioned to loosen valve by my right foot to bypass. I have the top off now and can see the Servo valve. I do not see any linkage or pins broken and still can not get the three point to go down by taking out the valves all around . I do not see a valve that goes directly into servo valve. I had mention the draft arm was disconnected somehow from the shaft that goes inside and has a large spring and pin that connects to linkage. could it be possible that when the draft arm came unconnected that it allowed the three point to go up so high that the linkage or something is jammed. When I was lifting the last bail with three point it stuck at on position and was clicking like it was trying to continue to lift but could not go any further. At this point I reached down to the three point lever and tried to push it back down but it was stuck and would not go down so I shut down the engine. the lever now goes both ways and linkage moves inside. However the linkage hits another set of linkage that goes to the draft control linkage. Since none of the valves seem to release the up pressure on the three point. Could it possibly be jammed up. I did order a Operators manual and repair manual from the place you gave me the number to.

Also the linkage for the draft control has to be connected. Yes I would reconnect that draft control linkage. Make sure there is no binding on the inside. There is a "Lock-out" bolt to use when you are not using draft control. But that linkage has to be reconnected and then you should be able to raise and lower the 3 pt. Larry

Could the lift piston have come out of the of the cylinder when It kept trying to lift higher and higher? And now is not going back in.

So I've been looking over the inside by the servo valve. I have literally opened every valve I can see on the out side of tractor with no pressure on any of them. also pulled the hydraulic line and no pressure there. I can pull up on the three point arm they lift a little and a cylinder shaped thing under the linkage pulls out when I lift up a little and seem to bind up or hit something when I let arm down. This cylinder thing connects to the draft linkage. I can not get the draft bar connected to the shaft that goes inside because the shaft connection is about 1/4 inch to far forward. Sorry to use words that aren't proper but I have no clue what most of this is called. First tractor ever.

To get those arms down, loosen the 4 bolts that hold the servo valve. This will let the oil escape. Then just retighten them. Larry

Do you think.the servo valve is bad? Or just the fact that the draft control arm came undone locked it in up position?-where do I get a new seal for the cover I had to take off to see servo valve. Or can I use old one that is still intact and some silicone or seal maker?

You will have to use your own judgement about what to use there. You will have to decide if the old one will work. Larry

880 timing

IP: 74.140.85.152 Posted on September 16, 2015 at 08:07:17 PM by Larry

Larry: We swapped our Bosch pump with a rebuilt Roosa. Question 1, are the injectors crack off specs the same with both pumps. Quest 2 We timed the pump by flywheel 'FP" mark and pump timimg marks lined up. And Im almost ashamed at this question, will it run if 180 out of time. It's hard starting and needs to be ethered even if warm. it just doesn't sound right. Thank You Larry

Re(1): 880 timing

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on September 17, 2015 at 08:25:52 AM by Larry Harsin

Yes, they are the same. You don't time it to the FP mark on a Roosa-Master. You time it at approx. 4¼ BTDC. And it won't run if it is 180¼ out of time. You have to have the pump timed to Top Dead Center number 1. Larry

Your tractor was built in 1962. The spec number tells how and with what parts your tractor was assembled. Larry

1650 hydra-lectric

IP: 107.77.83.33 Posted on September 15, 2015 at 03:51:47 PM by ben walker

i have the hydra-lectric control valves set up so the right hand side is set for a single acting cylinder and the left hand side set for double acting cylinder. when i operate the right hand control it sends full pressure to both the right and left hand outlets. when i operate the left hand control it bleeds pressure into the right hand circuit. i removed the housing containg the valve spools and interlock guides and resealed it. i reinstalled the housing and valves and the still acts the same way. any ideas?

Re(1): 1650 hydra-lectric

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on September 16, 2015 at 08:03:32 AM by Larry Harsin

That's the nature of the beast. There is no fix. The best thing you can do is add a power beyond circuit and run a separate valve. Larry

Service Manuals

Larry, where is the best place to purchase a service manual for Oliver 1750 - primarily need it work the engine

Re(1): Service Manuals

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on September 13, 2015 at 06:26:40 PM by Larry Harsin

We always order manuals from the Floyd Co. Museum in Charles City IA. 641-228-1099. The tractors were built in Charles City. When the Oliver Plant there closed, they gave a lot of their paperwork to the local Historical Society. The people who work there are so good to find things and help Oliver People. We like to recommend them for manuals etc. as the income helps keep the museum open for Oliver People to go to! It's a great place to visit if you are ever in the area. Larry

Oliver 88 diesel swap with gas

IP: 50.109.154.9 Posted on September 13, 2015 at 03:38:15 AM by Jerrod

I have a 1953 Oliver 88 row crop with a 3.8L Waukesha diesel. I also have a 1952 Oliver 88 with a 3.8L Waukesha gas engine. Are the engines interchangeable? I would like to make one good tractor and the gas engine needs a new block, so I was hoping to just swap engines.

Re(2): Oliver 88 diesel swap with gas

IP: 50.109.154.9 Posted on September 15, 2015 at 09:55:48 PM by Jerrod

Thanks for the information. Will the swap be a simple unbolt one engine and bolt up the other? I'm assuming everything will align with the Bell housing and transmission, is that correct?

White 2-85 thermostart

IP: 72.39.202.162 Posted on September 12, 2015 at 06:24:10 PM by Fred Brown

Would like to add thermostart to White 2-85 tractor to help winter starting, I see the parts needed in the AGCO parts book, where does the fuel line hook to? Does this improve cold starting significantly? I use tractor to blow snow, but is difficult to start in real cold weather even after plugging in block heater. Don't like using ether. Any other cold start tips?

Re(1): White 2-85 thermostart

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on September 13, 2015 at 06:18:39 PM by Larry Harsin

I believe I would keep the block heater and possibly add a tank heater. For more info about the thermo-start, call Tom at O'Brien Co. Impl. 800-320-6224. Larry

You need to get an Operator's Manual for your tractor. It will tell you lots of things about yuour tractor. You can get one at the Floyd Co. Museum in Charles City, IA 641-228-1099. From our manual - "For Batteries you need 2 (12 volt in parallel) Capacity 96 Ampere hrs. Size 30H (AABM)". Larry

I am searching for an air cleaner hose for an Oliver 550. The air cleaner end is smaller than the carburetor end so no preformed hoses I have found will fit properly and a flex hose will not bend enough to do the job.Can you help?

There are 3 different P/N's depending on the S/N see the attached link for the correct part number, can be ordered from an AGCO dealer or one of the after market suppliers. http://www.agcopartsbooks.com/PartsBooksN/Viewer/book.aspx?book=agco/43310600 -- 550 parts book

Injector pump

IP: 72.2.169.24 Posted on September 10, 2015 at 08:53:06 PM by Brett

Can someone tell me the trick of getting the back mounting nut off the injection pump on a 1755 and which mark do you use on the fly wheel for tdc? When I stopped on the 1st one the timing marks on the pump where not lined up exact. 1/16 off or is that exceptable? Thanks in advance!

Re(1): Injector pump

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on September 12, 2015 at 08:23:59 AM by Larry Harsin

The flywheel is marked TDC. You have to find that and then line up your marks. Larry

Re(2): Injector pump

IP: 166.137.10.78 Posted on September 15, 2015 at 11:18:20 AM by Cleon Couey

You'll have to buy a right angle 9/16 end wrench or cut the open end off of one you have and weld it back together at a right angle.

1655 Cockshutt input shaft torque specs.

Hi Larry I am working on a 1655 Cockshutt (white) I am having trouble with the transmission input shaft being to tight. when I torque the nut on the end of the input shaft to the specs in the I.T. Service manual of 150 ft. pounds the gears get really tight and don't turn freely. Is this a misprint in the manual? when I loosen the nut then the gears turn freely. I would appreciate any insight you would have on these transmissions Thank you
