PAT ROBERTSON'S BIG MOUTH
The problem for Pat Robertson is his mouth.
It's a strong mouth, so built up by his constant grinning, the man could lift a John Deere off the ground every time he says terrorist.
I didn't see the episode, but news sources tell us that during a recent cable television broadcast of Robertson's 700 Club he said that Muslims were virtually pouring into this country and establishing terrorist cell groups all over the country. He said Muslims were not allowed to make friends with non-muslims but rather were told to kill Christians and Jews and Buddhists.
Robertson, of course, is wrong about all of that garbage. Muslims are not taking over this country. Most of them have not established cells for terrorist activities. Muslims, certainly those of my acquaintance, are not told to kill non-Muslims. In fact, they are admonished to make friends with those people who are not trying to hurt them.
What we have here is one Christian fundamentalist taking on the entire Muslim world. His weapon is a conception that Christians are better than Muslims, more peaceful and driven toward liberty. He says Muslims want to control and destroy. While Christians want to build, encourage and give life - that's what Robertson says.
The truth is, Robertson is a destructive, megalomaniac. He attacks Americans whenever he can. He admonishes the believer as well as the unbeliever. He thinks he has a corner on truth. His goal is to control the country, to put his friends and kindred spirits into every important seat of government. My guess is, he would use any means possible to achieve that end.
Robertson's problem is that he is a frightened little man who has been thrown into a position of power by an ignorant rabble of followers. Pat Robertson does not represent America. He represents himself and a few followers who have the understanding of dupes.
Very often when Robertson opens his mouth on the 700 Club television broadcast, his fears come dribbling out. They are hot and smelly. They infect and make people sick.
Robertson's views instill desires to wipe out the enemies, and too often the enemies are the people Robertson decided to hate that morning. You can't stop this nimcompoop. He has money and a compelling need. You can't dismiss him and expect the hatred to stop. Besides, if Robertson slows, another fundamentalist hate-monger will take his place.
Robertson said, "Our immigration policies are now so skewed towards the Middle East and away from Europe that we have introduced these people into our midst and undoubtedly there are terrorist cells all over them...They want to coexist until they can control, dominate, and then if need be destroy."
If you can read between the lines, you know Robertson believes the people who are running this country are conspiring to destroy America by allowing large numbers of Muslims into the country to establish a terrorist network. According to past tirades, there are other ways the conspirators are trying to ruin America; pornography, liberalism, feminism, loose morals, mainline churches, public schools.
Robertson's game is to convince people their comfortable way of life is about to be shoved into the pit by foreigners who have the means to take over America. It's a message that grips the weak and frightened, and drives them to hate. Don't let it get you.
