Have been enjoying hearing about the people who are probably my ancestors. Of note is the fifth child of Silas Morphew and Elizabeth England. Aaron Morphew 1792 who went to Nauvoo Alabama. That is where my ancestors came from according to history of Peter Ingle by William Dee Ingle. My great grandmother Nancy Catherine Ingle 1850-1887 married Levi Clint Morphew in 1871. She is buried in the Ingle-Wakefield Cemetary near Navoo Alabama. Their daughter Mary married my grandfather Charles C Estill. My mother Flora Estill grew up in an Arkansas Orphanage. Until recently I had assumed the orphanage was in Alabama, but hearing that it was in Arkansas, have wondered why they went to Arkansas then later back to Alabama. Your page regarding Aaron Morphew may be the reason. They had family there. Before his death I spoke with Bill Ingle who showed me Nancy Catherine's grave, and the grave of my great Uncle, but not the Levi Clint Morphew grave. Finding this web site has been a thrill for me. Although I don't live very far away from the Salt Lake City Library, I had rather take a beating than drive in Salt Lake City. It is my understanding that the microfilm isn't yet on the internet. I am trying to write family history from great grandfather on down, as soon as that is done, I will do more research on the Estill's. Can't find much on the web about that family, but was pleased and surprised to find so much about the Morphews.

      Thanks Betty

Hi Betty, I would like it if you'd give me permission to add the following email that you sent to me to the Morphew website which I maintain. This could be of interest to future serious genealogy researchers and I'll upload it to the site if it's OK with you. If you'll allow me to upload it feel free to make changes, etc. Thanks...larrymorphew 5-13-99

You have my permission. Since that e-mail I have been to Monticello Ark. for further research on my Mother and found that other Estill's were there also. Was looking for Mary Morphew Estill's grave in Mcgehee where my grandfather had a business, couldn't find it in the list of names in the cemetaries in that county. But later found that they were put in the orphanage from Marianna Ark., wasn't able to get there but suspect Mary's grave may be there.

While in Monticello I received a call from a lady whose husband was related to the Estill's of Mcgehee. She doesn't have a computer so I would have to contact her for permission to put her name and address, although there may not be anyone looking for Estill's on the Morphew website. I have also since found out that a book exists for the Estill's which was researched and written by John M Caudle. I plan to get in touch with him in the near future. I hope that my little information may be of help to others. Betty Cole

NOTE: This email received 5-16-99 and is directly related to the email which is posted at http://morphew.0catch.com/genealogy/melissamorphew.html . It is interesting that a little page such as this can help to make family connections.

      Dear Melissa,
I found your message on the Morphew website. Your louse of a great grandfather and mine appears to be one and the same. However I did not realize he was a louse. I knew nothing about him until I purchased a "History of Peter Ingle written by William Ingle". I had been told by Cordova AL relatives that our parents were in that book.

According to that book Nancy Catherine Ingle 1850-1887 married Levi Clint Morphew in 1871. She is buried in Ingle-Wakefield Cemetary near Navoo AL.
      Their Children
      1. John David Morphew 1873-
      2. Martha J Morphew Hughes 1876- married John Hughes
      3. Rachel K Morphew Lowrimore 2880-1942 married John Newton Lowrimore 1877-1969 in 1898 Walker County Al. both buried Lamesa Texas.
      4. Mary Morphew Estill 1882-1911 married Charles Chester Estill. buried Marianna Ark.
      5. Levi Washington Morphew 1884- married Mary A Hobson 1902. Had 3 children.
      6. Robert B Morphew 1887-1959 married Mary Etta Baughn had 6 children. Both buried Old Union Cemetary near Navoo Al.

William Ingle showed me Nancy Catherine's and Robert's graves, but didn't know anything about Levi Clint. Because my grandmother Mary Morphew Estill also died leaving 5 children which were put into an orphanage by their father, I knew very little family history other than grandparents names until I found the Ingle history. According to family folklore my grandmother had also been orphaned and had lived and worked for the Estill family, then marrying their crippled son Charlie.

My Mother never showed anger or resentment towards her father for leaving them in an Orphanage after their Mother died, actually quite the opposite she had an almost hero worship for him. Perhaps my grandmother Mary felt the same way about her father who you say went to Ark. It certainly makes sense out of the reason why my grandparents left Al. for Ark. All of the five Estill children did get back to AL. and lived there until my Mother Flora Estill brought us out west to NV in 1944..

I have copies of letters my grandfather wrote to his brother trying to get other relatives to come to Ark. He seemed to think that he was making a better living than he or they could in Al. It never occurred to me that other relatives that were already in Ark. may have been the reason my grandparents went there also, until I read the Morphew website.

I can almost understand a widow or widower leaving their children with someone else. My husband died leaving me with four children to raise, and the thought of that responsibility added to the grief (psychologists say that the death of a spouse is right up on top of painful events) is almost overwhelming. Although I did not abandon my children, the thought did cross my mind. Perhaps our great grandfather may have been more of a coward than a louse.

The Ingle book ends after listing my mother's generation. I do not know how to put that book on a website, since I'm just a recent owner of a computer that has so many capabilities I haven't had time to learn them all. That book lists many lineages (Peter Ingle was an AL. pioneer from Germany) however I do not wish to rewrite the whole book at this time, but I would be glad to put down the direct lineage from Peter Ingle with brothers and sisters down to Levi Clint Morphew if either of you would like.

Mary Morphew 1882-1911, married to Charles Chester Estill about 1898. buried Marianna Ark, husband buried Cordova Al.

Florinda (Flora)Estill Roberts Volckart 1905-1981 died Ely, NV (Info in Ingle family history incorrect regarding place of death for Flora and next child Mabel) married Roland Alonzo Roberts in AL had 5 children. Married Alfonso Volckart a French Canadian in NV. no children by that marriage.

      5. Jack Paul Roberts 1941- still living, married Gloria Miller in Ely NV, had 1 son Stanley. Later divorced married Donna Hinkle in 1971.

I am amazed at the creative writing talent in this family. My mother wrote Poetry, I am a closet Poet ( probably inherited some cowardice from Levi Clint because I'm afraid to share my poetry with but the closest of friends and relatives) My daughter teaches English and various related subjects at a NC technical college and on the internet. I think her Bio is still on the following website http://atlas.faytech.cc.nc.us/infodesk/vcampus/eng242/desktop.html She plans to write a couple novels when she has time from her busy schedule. Another daughter's teenage son was in an advanced English Class and writes as easily as he breathes.

Have enjoyed both your efforts very much and feel very fortunate that I can correspond with you. Since Melissa will be teaching, I expect she will be as busy as my daughter is, so will not expect much of her time.
      Thanks
      Betty Cole
