Recently, we received a Samples family file that connects to my
Mother's Holley folks. On the very first paragraph of folks, there
were Morphews. So, I thought that you might add them to your page in
case someone might be looking for them:

Will let you know if I find more of them intermingled. I thought it
was interesting to find them on my Mother's line. One of her
grandmothers was Mary Sarah Martin whose mother was the Samples. Most
of them are out of Itawamba County, Mississippi.

oops... a little bit more for my site information:
      1900 Pope County Arkansas census:
James Morphew/Murphy, born 1852 Maryland. Mom is listed from West Virginia
(but on the 1910 census she is listed as from Virginia). Father is listed
from Ireland. James is known to have lived in North Carolina and in
      Tennessee.
spouse: Virginia Medaris (daughter of James Hiram and Elizabeth Boone
Medaris... Elizabeth being the greatgranddaughter of Israel Boone, brother
of Daniel Boone the frontiersman). She was born in Daisy, Tennessee. Many of
her Medaris relatives married various members of
the Boone family. She shares grandparents in the 3rd generation in America
with Al Gore. (Also kin to Rue McClanahan, Pat Boone and Richard Boone of
Have Gun Will Travel... also Abe Lincoln and Loretta Lynn).

Their children were all born in Tennessee around Bradley County and the
Chattanooga area. Gertrude, however, was born in Pope County, Arkansas:

Henry, age 21. Married Etta Stanley in Sept. 1900. He also died that year in
a coal mine accident. Am tracing for possible children. In 1901, Etta
      remarried to a Lee Barefield.

Jinetta, age 18. In Oct. 1900, she married S Thresher, listed as from Scott
County, Arkansas. Don't have her found yet.

Poley, age 15. He married Myrtle Carter of Dover, Arkansas. His offspring
are well-respected in the county. A grandson is with the ARKids First
program and was a former Episcopal priest. This son died of diabetes... when
the doctor took away his car and the keys... Poley constructed a car from
wood and drove it to town everyday. He also built 3 houses by himself.

John, age 5. He married Merica Chambers of Wright County, Missouri. Her
parents were Andrew and Elizabeth Stacey Chambers. They also lived in Newton
County, Arkansas. However, the Chambers folk originated in Monroe County,
Indiana... and lived in Georgia and Kentucky at times.
He was blind to the extent that he had to be led around.

Gertrude, age 2. She married a Methodist minister, Benjamine Sosbee
and moved to Gore, Okla and Wright County, Missouri. Her descendants live in
      California.

another sibling may be James Murphy, Jr. from the Nashville, Tenn area. His
family has just recently contacted me and I don't have their material yet.
He was born in 1874 and likely from a first marriage for James.
AND... this family is described as small in stature and build. Saintly to
the point that they are known to help anyone, anytime regardless.
Dark hair to slate brown/copper hair, blue eyes. Most are slender but some
tend to be stocky. Some are known for artistic talents.
