Oliver Super 44

IP: 72.158.101.205 Posted on April 28, 2015 at 11:50:39 AM by Fritz Knapper

The front seal on my hydrualic pump is leaking fluid into the engine. Who made the hydraulic pump for the Super 44?

I'm not sure. It was probably Vickers. Ollie Schaefer would be able to tell you. He lives at Geeenville, IL. Phone 618-664-3050. Larry

Antifreeze in oil

IP: 128.177.161.167 Posted on April 24, 2015 at 07:08:26 PM by Doug

Larry, changing oil in a 1650 diesel noticed about a quart of antifreeze coming out first. Would this be a head problem or cylinder liner seal problem? Any way to know without taking the head off to be checked?

Re(1): Antifreeze in oil

I think it will probably be on the cylinder liner seal. Larry

3 point problem

IP: 166.170.0.93 Posted on April 21, 2015 at 03:22:22 PM by Paul

Hi, I have an oliver 1550 diesel the 3pt goes up and down, but the lever wants to keep raising to the top, and going against the pump. Had the spool valve apart and all seems fine there. Messed with the draft control. No difference. Thanks in advance.

Re(1): 3 point problem

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on April 21, 2015 at 09:07:49 PM by Larry Harsin

There is a friction disk that is on that control lever. It will have to be replaced. You have to remove the lid from the hydraulic system. Then, remove the hydraulic lever assembly so that you can replace the friction disk. After you re-assemble it, adjust the linkage between the lever and the control arm so that the rock shaft has an inch to inch and a half of free travel at the top. Larry

Thanks Larry. You are correct on the disc. It was gone. Made a replacement and all good now.

Generator power steering pump super 55

IP: 50.75.116.202 Posted on April 20, 2015 at 11:18:48 AM by Ed

Am looking to replace the generator on my super 55 to a power steering pump. I've been told that I could use a Chevy generator power steering pump from the 50's. Is this true? If so what model should I be looking for? I see one for sale today with a model 1102115. What was the factory model number for the super 55 power steering set up? Thanks.

Yes, that is true. That generator off of a GM vehicle from that time frame used that set-up. The number you say may work. If you can buy it right, you could probably make it work. Larry

1800 hydra drive fluid

IP: 198.111.39.224 Posted on April 20, 2015 at 08:14:25 AM by Sam

I have a 1800 and the manual calls for type A trans fluid in the Hydra drive. I've looked at several auto supply stores and can't find Type A trans fluid. Could you please tell me where to find it or else tell my what could be used in it's place?

1650 front tires and rims

I have a 1650 with a 1610 loader and want to put wider tires on the front. I have the original 6.50x16 tires, can I put wider tires on those rims? Any suggestions?

You might be able to put on a 750x16 tire with the rims you have. Larry

1555 power steering slow

IP: 216.114.236.228 Posted on April 17, 2015 at 07:32:52 AM by Bryan E.

In cold weather tractor very hard to steer, took some force, until used for 1/2 hr or more, Now in 60 degree weather, it takes some force to turn the steering wheel . Tractor has at least 8000 hrs on it. Has Universal Hyd Fluid from Mills Fleet Farm in it. It has PS from the main pump ( not auxuilary). What might be problem and solutions. Thanks for your help.

Re(1): 1555 power steering slow

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on April 19, 2015 at 09:01:29 AM by Larry Harsin

The first thing I would check is the steering shaft where it attaches to the hydro motor. It may have gotten water in there, which freezes in cold weather. Or it may be foreign material that has gotten in there. Also it could be something binding in there on the outside of the column. Larry

White 2155 shutoff

IP: 174.25.246.22 Posted on April 16, 2015 at 09:43:39 PM by Jerry Krause

2155 diesel will not shut off using the ignition switch. It worked fine last fall.

Re(1): White 2155 shutoff

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on April 19, 2015 at 08:58:37 AM by Larry Harsin

I'm not really familiar with that particular model. Is this number correct? I can't answer your question. Larry

Re(2): White 2155 shutoff

IP: 67.41.67.112 Posted on May 14, 2015 at 11:17:08 AM by Jerry Krause

The correct model was a 2-155. Problem has been resolved. The new fuel shutoff was not always activated because of an intermittent switch. The shut-off problem via the switch was because the new fuel shutoff value was not being fully released. It was hanging up. A little JB-80 took care of that.

1550 Steering Issues

IP: 72.160.235.79 Posted on April 12, 2015 at 07:42:12 PM by Chris Elstran

I have a 1550 that will not steer at times especially at lower rpms. The 3 point works fine. I have cleaned up the flow divider, Installed another hydramotor and put new seals in the front steering box. I did check the pressure but I don't remember what it was but I am pretty sure I had what the IT manual said I should. When driving the tractor if a wheel hits a rut or a hole it will turn the wheels. What else can I try? Thanks

The early 770 & 880 used that. If it works alright, I'd leave it alone. I don't think parts are available for that governor anymore. Larry

my oliver 1800 steering wheel turns to the right but the wheel won't move ,you can move the wheel so it must be someplace in the steering

If it is a B series, it probably has a problem with the Gemmer unit under the radiator. Larry

1650 gas engine oil pan

IP: 66.44.138.84 Posted on April 7, 2015 at 09:17:17 PM by Randy

can the oil pan be removed with the engine in frame? and if so what is the torque spec for the oil pan. thank you.

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on April 9, 2015 at 08:35:44 AM by Larry Harsin

Yes. It can be removed with the engine in the frame. I don't know of troque specs on the oil pan bolts. Just snug them up. Then run the tractor awhile and recheck them. Larry

Oliver 66

IP: 108.16.220.191 Posted on April 7, 2015 at 05:27:47 AM by Lou

Hey Larry, Just purchased an Oliver 66 in beautiful shape just to be used to have fun with and for parade use. My question is although it runs fantastic i know its supposed to have a 6 speed trans. I seem to be able to only get 4 out of it left and up is reverse down seems like 1st, up,right and up seems like the fasted gear and then straight back seems like 2nd. It also seems to jerk a bit in the high gear at top speed. Am I missing something? Thanksin advance for any help.

Do you have an Operator's manual? You can get one from the museum in Charles City. 641-228-1099. It will tell you lots of things about your tractor. Larry

1850 3 pt and hydrualics don't move

IP: 199.38.171.154 Posted on April 6, 2015 at 07:52:23 PM by Tim

I've got a '65 1850 and when I was chisel plowing every thing was as usual and then the hydraulics got super slow, both up and down. 3pt won't move now either. where do I start?

Re(1): 1850 3 pt and hydrualics don't move

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on April 9, 2015 at 08:31:01 AM by Larry Harsin

I would get a pressure gage and start checking pressures. Does the steering still work like it should? If it does, you may have a sticky flow control spool in the servo valve. Larry

super 88

IP: 64.107.183.201 Posted on April 1, 2015 at 05:30:43 PM by joel carroll

a man is selling a 1955 super 88 diesel this is a working tractor, missing the right side panel. he says when he starts it it goes to wide open throttle. what could it be? what should i look for when evaluating the tractor? wide front end. tires good would 500 be a fair price?

Re(1): super 88

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on April 2, 2015 at 07:37:19 AM by Larry Harsin

The control unit that goes into the injection head is probably stuck. Gently try to move the governor control back and forth. If it doesn't free up, you may have to remove the cover off the side of the pump. It is held in place by 2 - 1/4 inch cap screws. Larry

Re(2): super 88

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on April 2, 2015 at 07:39:19 AM by Larry Harsin

It should be worth more than $500. It would be worth that for iron price!! Larry
