Oliver 1850 vibration damper
IP: 216.165.145.54 Posted on August 31, 2014 at 05:23:07 PM by Larry M
I need to remove the power steering cylinder, and as a first step, the engine vibration damper is supposed to be removed. I took out the 9 bolts, but it wouldn't budge. Is there something else that must be removed to get the damper off? Thanks

I'm assuming that this is a Perkins motor. According to the information that I have, that damper should come off when you remove the 9 cap screws. I would be careful not to damage the damper as I try to remove it. If the washer on the pulley retaining nut is larger, that front bolt that holds the pulley on may have to be removed if the washer interferes. Larry

My Oliver 550 will start, run strong for about 15 seconds then cough and die. I've taken the carb apart and cleaned it, replaced the sediment bowl, put on new plug wires and a new coil. The problem continues, any suggestions where to turn next?

The hydra power unit on my 1966 1650 diesel is acting up. It works fine in direct drive, but pull the lever out and it is like putting it in neutral. We plan on tearing into it and wondering where we might get any parts needed. Any help would be appreciated.

Your sprag clutch is not working. The unit will have to be disassembled and the sprag clutch replaced. Larry

The housing on the cylinder head has to be removed to get into that thermostat. Larry

How does the housing come off. I have removed 4 bolts that look like they go into the block separated the gasket with a putty knife and it still won't let loose. Any other fitting that I am missing. I don't want to force the issues and break castings.

1800 oil pump
IP: 66.87.72.34 Posted on August 26, 2014 at 09:51:31 AM by W Blevins
I recently inquired about low oil pressure on my 1800 A. I dropped the pan as you advised and ended up pulling the pump and checking it. After all checks when I reinstalled the pump and replaced the pan, now the tractor seems to be out of time. I consulted the service manual and it says something about aligning the flat spot on the shaft with the crank then turning it 1/8 turn. Is there some kind of correlation between the ignition timing and the oil pump that I'm missing. The engine was never turned over when the oil pump was off. Thanks for any input.

IP: 172.242.134.43 Posted on August 29, 2014 at 07:15:34 AM by Larry Harsin
Yes. The way you install the pump affects the timing. You can correct for it without taking the pump out of the engine, Put your engine on Top Dead Center #1 and then adjust your distributor accordingly, so that the rotor aligns with the plug wire hole that fires #1 cylinder. Then put the other wires in according to the firing order: 1,5,3,6,2,4. Larry

You could have a sticky exhaust valve or you could have an electrical problem such as a bad condenser. Larry

Oliver 1650/770 PTO Lube
IP: 132.194.206.64 Posted on August 20, 2014 at 08:52:07 AM by Michael
Just a quick question, been having a bit of a problem finding information on this machine. I have a 1650 that has the older 770 dry PTO clutch setup on it. I know that this is a separate oil reservoir but seem to be finding conflicting information about what this box is supposed to be filled with? Would 80/90 be appropriate? Also, Is the 770 PTO setup common to run into on these machines?

80-90 would be fine. Normally that style PTO is not used on a 1650. Larry

I have a 1959 880 oliver. There is a severe hydralic leak coming from the restrictor swivel on the right side. The swivel has a lot of play in it when I wiggle it with my hand . Can I rebuild restrictor swivel or should I replace?Where can I get the parts?

The restrictor swivel can be repaired. 101148A It takes 2 of these. The O ring on the plunger is just a generic O ring. The 101148A will have to bought at an AGCO Dealer. If you don't have an AGCO Dealer, you can order it from Tom at O'Brien Co. Impl. 800-320-6224. Larry

Have an 1850 diesel that leaks oil out the cap u remove to take out the long power shaft in the rear of the tractor. I replaced the o-ring on the short shaft by the snap ring. Is there another o-ring or seal that may be out causing it to pump out the oil?

1800 oil pressure
IP: 66.87.75.11 Posted on August 8, 2014 at 02:25:41 PM by W. Blevins
While using my 1800A gas today I noticed that while climbing any type of incline it loses oil pressure. It is full of oil and the motor seems to not have any rattles or knocks. As soon as the front end levels out the pressure returns to normal(around 25-27 psi). After watching it closely I noticed the gauge would also fluctuate in an abrupt start or stop. Was thinking maybe a hole or crack in the oil pump pickup tube. Any thoughts or suggestions before I drop the pan would be greatly appreciated.

550 PTO seal replacement
IP: 99.187.185.227 Posted on August 3, 2014 at 02:28:57 PM by Greg
I am working or replacing the pro clutch discs and seals of a 550. I have split the tractor and remove all the pto parts down to the spider hub and dreaded spanner nut. This is where I am having my problem. How do I get the spanner nut off? I have tried the following: beating the nut with a hammer and wedge; using a pipe wrench on a spanner wrench made out of 2" pipe with 4 tabs welded to the end; added a impact socket to the end of my spanner wrench to use a impact gun; and generally just heating, beating, cursing and repeating. All to no avail. Any other suggestions? A couple of things I have noticed. To keep the hub from turning, I have been using a scratch awl to put in a hole on the outside of the hub. At least until I sheared off the awl will trying to turn the my spanner wrench with the pipe wrench. How should I keep the spider hub from turning while trying to remove the nut? Second I have been using a propane torch to heat the nut, so far it is not helping. I read where one guy used MAP gas. What are your feelings on using MAP gas? Finally, if I destroy the spanner nut, can I get a replacement?

1650 diesel problems

I was baling with a 1650 diesel when the engine surged a few times and died. I checked and cleaned the sediment bowl and screen and changed both fuel filters. After priming and starting the engine it will idle fine but when brought up to operating speed the engine runs fine for a few minutes then cuts out lopes and dies. Tried restarting and got the same results. Am I looking at an injection pump? Any ideas? Thanks

Either it is not getting fuel to the pump or the pump is not getting fuel to the engine. You'll have to check these things and figure it out. Larry
