60 RC Front Main Seal

IP: 173.172.186.244 Posted on August 22, 2015 at 03:25:04 PM by Andrew

Do you have a current seal number for H-126? And H-123 Fan Pulley Felt? Also any tips or tricks that help replacing this seal? Or anything I should think about replacing if I have to take the timing cover off?

Oliver 1650 gas

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on August 22, 2015 at 09:46:46 AM by Amos

My Oliver 1650 over the past 7 years has made a low grinding sound when its in gear and moving just recently I noticed it sounded worse should I look in to fixing this and if so how would I go about too do so?

Re(2): Oliver 1650 gas

I would check the magnetic drain plugs on the transmission and see if there are any shavings. That is the first thing I would do and then go from there. Larry

1555 Hyd. questions

IP: 207.255.231.86 Posted on August 19, 2015 at 10:21:33 AM by Mickey Hoover

Hello, I am working on an Oliver 1555 hyds the pressure is low at 1200 @ HFI shortening the lift arms and would not rise when I added shims to the relief that I then removed them. But my biggest misunderstanding is the oil flow through the control valve. I am only looking at an IT shop manual one page flow, one page valve drawing. Problem??; when the three point hitch arms are lifted, All of the remotes are pressurized and the oil remains checked/locked in each curricut. I can see from the IT drawing that the oil enters the left spool first. I have had the Interlock vales, plungers, seats check balls and springs out and control valve off and replaced all the O-rings. So is what I am finding normal?? And might my only problem be with repairing the pump to gain speed and pressure? PS none of the electric items are connected. Does anyone have an good hydraulic schematic and theory of hydraulics operation for Oliver 1555 and willing to share? mhooverrepairs@yahoo.com "Thanks in Advance"

Yes. That is the way the system works. If you repair the pump, I think that will take care of it. There should be a schematic showing the electrical part in the Shop Manual for this tractor. You can get a Shop Manual from the museum in Charles City. 641-288-1099. Larry

Oliver 550 power steering

IP: 198.169.6.51 Posted on August 18, 2015 at 09:12:49 AM by David Korth

I am wondering which pulley the power steering pump runs off on an Oliver 550 gas. The tractor is a 1958. I bought the factory powersteering pieces and can not figure out were to drive the pump from. Also where is the resoivor mounted?

Re(1): Oliver 550 power steering

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on August 19, 2015 at 07:59:01 AM by Larry Harsin

It depends on which power steering you purchased. It may need a double grooved pulley on the crank shaft. Larry

IP: 198.169.6.51 Posted on August 28, 2015 at 08:47:14 AM by David Korth

Hi Larry, I managed to get the pump and the resoivor mounted. You were correct I need a double pulley for the crankshaft. Can you tell me if I can still get bearings and seals for the steering box. My steering box is the one that has the control valve between the steering column and the gearbox itself. It also has the 2 steering cylinders attached to the radius arms.

White 2-105 shifter binding

I have a White 2-105, and I've been having some troubles with the shifter. It started binding a few days ago, and now it won't go into second gear. It engages, but doesn't go in far enough to stay. Thanks, Pete

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on August 19, 2015 at 07:56:55 AM by Larry Harsin

I would guess that there might be a bolt loose that holds the fork on the shift rail. Larry

60 RC Power Lift

IP: 173.172.186.244 Posted on August 17, 2015 at 10:54:57 PM by Andrew

Have an oil seep from the control pedal shaft on the power lift. Agco dealer says the cork washer is discontinued. Do you know of a lip seal that can be installed or will I have to try to cut my own from cork?

Re(1): 60 RC Power Lift

Making one from cork is probably what you are going to have to do. Larry

Belt Pulley Shaft Nut

IP: 173.172.186.244 Posted on August 17, 2015 at 10:49:59 PM by Andrew

Belt pulley leaks a fair amount of oil. Can you tell me what size deep socket is needed to remove the nut on the splined belt pulley shaft? Looks like 1-3/4". I would rather not have to buy a set of deep sockets this large when I only need one. This is a 1945 60 RC.

Re(1): Belt Pulley Shaft Nut

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on August 19, 2015 at 07:54:10 AM by Larry Harsin

I think it is a 3/4 inch. You should be able to get in there with your regular socket with a 1/2 inch extension. Larry

60 Rotor

IP: 173.172.186.244 Posted on August 17, 2015 at 10:45:21 PM by Andrew

60 RC. It was running fine and I decided to open the cap to look at the points. After putting it back together it wouldn't start. The rotor shaft has about 1/4" to 3/8" of end play. The rotor was not making contact with the posts on the cap. I "fixed" it by placing a garden hose washer between the rotor and the dust cap. Is it normal to have that much end play? Does it need attention? Thanks, great info.

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on August 19, 2015 at 07:51:48 AM by Larry Harsin

I'm not sure, but if it runs o.k. with your "fix", I would just leave it alone. Larry

Oliver 88

IP: 184.53.50.170 Posted on August 15, 2015 at 01:13:04 PM by Dwight Spiegelberg

I bought an Oliver 88 at auction and want to redo it to original, but it had been repainted and decaled. I am having no luck determining what it should be, as my serial number looks nothing like what is listed on websites. I want to know what year and color scheme it is supposed to be. The I.D. under the dash says Specification# 18-0036 and Serial# 36-181-801. can anyone help?

Re(1): Oliver 88

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on August 19, 2015 at 07:46:26 AM by Larry Harsin

Sorry we are slow in answering. We have been working on a couple of Shows. Look at your Serial Number on your tractor again. This number you sent is not listed as such. Please check again. It might be helpful to look for a casting date on the bottom of the transmission housing. Larry

880 Hyd Pump

IP: 69.9.218.95 Posted on August 12, 2015 at 02:25:23 PM by Dave

I enjoy reading your message board. Thank you so much for your efforts. I would like to have my 880 hydraulic pump completely rebuilt. I am wondering if you have anyone you would suggest. I could either send in the pump or exchange it for a completely rebuilt one. I assume there is a core charge if the pump is not exchanged. Thank you in advance for your expertise.

550 diesel timing

IP: 166.82.10.87 Posted on August 11, 2015 at 03:10:50 PM by Murray Corriher

Is there a timing mark for the engine so that I have starting point to time the engine after rebuilding the pump? In the process of reinstalling the gear came out and I am off one tooth. Thanks for any help.

Re(1): 550 diesel timing

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on August 14, 2015 at 07:49:55 AM by Larry Harsin

You should consult your Shop Manual for this. There are 2 different styles of injection systems on those 550 diesels. You can get a Shop Manual from the Museum in Charles City, IA. Be prepared to give them your serial number so that you get the right manual. Larry

Super 55 Oil Pressure

IP: 174.125.25.127 Posted on August 10, 2015 at 07:58:31 PM by Doug

What is a normal oil pressure for a Super 55 Diesel. I have got a newer pressure guage on mine and it reads low but the tractor is running about 18 lbs of pressure.

Re(1): Super 55 Oil Pressure

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on August 14, 2015 at 07:45:55 AM by Larry Harsin

18 lbs. is normal. I'm guessing your gauge is calibrated a bit low. Larry

Official Paint Scheme

IP: 71.245.60.63 Posted on August 10, 2015 at 10:16:14 AM by Matt aikey

I am buying a 1956 Oliver super 88 and am finding quite a controversy in what color scheme this tractor was actually to be when new, I have read that the early supers had green wheels and the later went back to red. I have even read that there were different shades of green used throughout the years! Any help would be appreciated

Re(1): Official paint scheme

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on August 14, 2015 at 07:44:35 AM by Larry Harsin

Your Super 88 should be Meadow Green, the grills should be yellow, wheels should be green also. Larry

66 diesel starter

IP: 70.194.143.201 Posted on August 4, 2015 at 09:31:36 PM by Brian

Hello, I have a super 66 diesel. I bought it not running but turned over. My question is, is there a different drive gear on the starter? When the starter engages it is 3/16" above the ring gear. It is deep enough. But above the ring gear. The numbers on starter put it as a diesel starter, the ring gear isn't worn. Ring gear measures 13-1/8" diameter. Could this be a 660 or gas 66 frame with diesel engine? I think they can all intertwine but not sure, thats why I am on here. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re(1): 66 diesel starter

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on August 5, 2015 at 06:48:01 AM by Larry Harsin

On the earlier Super 66 there is a different drive gear. Larry

IP: 162.244.200.21 Posted on August 20, 2015 at 08:00:15 PM by Brian

More Questions....I can't find an earlier year drive gear for the starter. I put a diff. back plate on with the starter hole dropped down roughly 3/4", put a new starter on and it fits good on the ring gear. Now the bell housing #K590B Does not match up. Do you know what model the current back plate would have come off of? I got rid of one problem...now have another. Thanks, Brian

Oliver 1750 motor

IP: 174.55.208.216 Posted on August 2, 2015 at 07:22:27 PM by Dave Lop

I have a wonderful 1750 diesel. While mowing under heavy load it lost power and began pushing air through the air cleaner evacuator valve. I let it cool for an hour, and it was back to normal, but about 10% less power, 1 hour later problem recurred. I think its a valve problem....any recommendations where to start?

Re(1): Oliver 1750 motor

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on August 4, 2015 at 09:05:51 PM by Larry Harsin

I would take the valve cover off and check the valve adjustment first. Larry

narrow front to wide front

IP: 166.181.3.104 Posted on August 1, 2015 at 06:38:04 PM by roger wallis

I have an 880 narrow front and want to convert to wide front. I have nearby access to a 1650 salvage tractor with a wide front. Will this swap work. I am a mechanic/welder so a bit of modifying I can comfortably do. thanks for the help

Re(1): narrow front to wide front

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on August 2, 2015 at 08:08:47 AM by Larry Harsin

Yes. If both tractors have factory power steering. If they don't, it would be much more complicated. Larry
