1550 steering arm

IP: 24.144.238.123 Posted on July 29, 2014 at 06:23:32 AM by Bruce Bateman

I am having no luck buying an Oliver 1550 part 160289A. It is the center steering arm. I have even emailed A&I and they also say the part is backordered.

1650 Diesel

IP: 70.194.8.249 Posted on July 28, 2014 at 06:49:51 PM by Doug

I have a 1650 Diesel - early model with Lenova injection. It developed a loud knock / miss. It does not miss under load. I suspect a rod / bearing problem. Has 5940 hours. If I get a used 283 direct injection, Is there any advantage to the direct injection engine (other than easier starting) or should I overhaul the one I have, cost appears to be the same either way. You advice would be appreciated.

I think it will be hard to find a direct injected engine. It would be better to overhaul the engine that you have. Larry

Yes, it can. Larry

50 series horn?

IP: 70.197.227.250 Posted on July 26, 2014 at 07:33:06 PM by Steve P.

I had the side panels off of my 1650 recently and notice there was a set of automotive horns between the radiator and grill. I re-wired them and they work. Did the 50 series come with horns or was this something someone added? Thanks

Those are something someone else added. They didn't come with the tractor. Larry

Super 55 gas throttle, idle, racing

IP: 216.232.227.30 Posted on July 25, 2014 at 07:31:40 AM by Stu

My S55 has over the years began to act funny. Cold or hot but much more so hot. If I put the throttle to idle it keeps racing and I have to manually pull the governor linkage back. But it creeps back up in rpm idling. Under load at 540 pto it's generally ok. But there are also times I need throttle, pull the lever all the way down and nothing happens. Confused. Thanks Larry.

You could have linkage binding or you could have something that is worn or broken inside the governor housing. Larry

1650 stuck in 2 gears

IP: 184.158.83.210 Posted on July 23, 2014 at 10:51:47 PM by Gerald Hubbling

Hi Larry, I have a 1650 that appears to be stuck in 2 gears. I shifted from 2nd gear to R1 and when I let the clutch out it backed up a little then lurched forward. It seems to go in and out of all the gears ok but when I let the clutch out it just pulls down and doesn't move. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi Larry, I went back in the archives and found some similar situations. I should add that I had only had used the tractor about 15 minutes and all I was doing was mowing some grass. Could it have warmed up enough to cause a gear to seeze on a shaft that quick

It sounds to me like one of the gears is galled to the shaft. It could happen that quickly especially if it was low on transmission grease. Larry

1800-880 front end exchange

IP: 69.9.218.95 Posted on July 23, 2014 at 09:36:47 PM by Dave

I enjoy reading your message board very much. Am wondering if you can tell me if I can swap a wide front end from an 1800 with a narrow front on an 880? Thank you Dave

IP: 172.242.134.43 Posted on July 26, 2014 at 07:29:10 AM by Larry Harsin

No. I think the front end from an 880 would bolt up, but it is not heavy enough for an 1800. Larry

I have a hole in my power steering box. I would like to find a manual. I have a manual for the 613 backhoe. I also would like to find a manual on the ware 778 loader part. Tractor model is 37-7301 serial 127 332 - 714.

I see the wide front off the 1650. Mine looks different it has the valve body on it like the 1960 1800 valve body on ebay. only difference is on mine both pump lines are out the end. I think I can repair my steering box assy i will test it Friday. I'm mostly wondering what I have as far as a tractor model. the 37-7301 is off the data plate under the steering wheel.

You can get Manuals from the Floyd Co. Museum in Charles City. 641-228-1099. They may have some info on the numbers from your tractor also. Larry

I ordered some manuals. I'm just impatient. My power steering box has the valve body bolted on the front. Cast steel input shaft cover. Welds good but will crack. Both side covers have return pressure. I sealed the weld on the inside. Everything had orings except the shaft seal for the power cylinder. the shaft is 13/16. I used 314 oring ground sides to narrow it a little. used dremel and stone to open bore a little. I did the oring bore installed. Hope this helps someone fix their's.

1650 hydra power drive

IP: 70.198.35.23 Posted on July 21, 2014 at 03:21:47 AM by Steve P.

I just got my 1650 back running after 2 years of sitting and the hydra power drive lever won't budge. It worked fine when it was parked. I checked and it has fluid. Could the piston that is connected to the linkage be rusted or is it something more? Tried engaging it with the tractor running and shut off. Tractor drives fine in direct drive. Thanks for any help.

hot 1650

IP: 66.87.72.200 Posted on July 18, 2014 at 07:41:47 PM by Joe Gilliam

My 1650 gas has for years been uncomfortablely hot to operate. The engine temp is normal but the heat off it has boiled the gas in the tank. I reset the timing and it helped some but it is still uncomfortable to drive even at 1500 rpm raking hay. I planed a new exhaust manifold and installed it but it didn't help.

Re(1): hot 1650

IP: 172.242.134.43 Posted on July 26, 2014 at 07:36:02 AM by Larry Harsin

Make sure the radiator is clean, no dirt in the radiator core. Make sure the fan belt is tight. You might try putting in a pusher fan that pushes the air out instead of pulling the air in like the one you have. Larry

steering on 1950T

IP: 199.119.151.148 Posted on July 13, 2014 at 09:07:38 AM by Steven

I have lost all steering on my 1950T. We were using it to load big round bales in the field and the steering quit all at once. The steering wheel turns free and when it reaches the stop you can here the bypass valve squeal. I checked the pressure at the priority valve and there is 250 psi when you are not moving the steering wheel, when you turn it all the way to the right or left the pressure increases to 1500 psi. No leaks in the steering motor or lines. Is the problem in the rack and pinion portion? How would I fix this? Thanks

IP: 172.242.134.43 Posted on July 14, 2014 at 07:04:52 AM by Larry Harsin

I'm not sure. I would jack it up and move the wheels by hand and see if there is something broken in the pitman shaft area. Larry

1650 vs 1555

IP: 69.35.194.123 Posted on July 7, 2014 at 03:09:24 PM by Tom Gregory

Will the wide front from a 1555 fit a 1650? Also will the frame interchange? Will the diesel engine from the 1650 fit the 1555? My 1650 ran over the hill into the ceptic lagoon and broke up the front end. Thanks!

Re(1): 1650 vs 1555

IP: 172.242.134.43 Posted on July 12, 2014 at 08:11:01 AM by Larry Harsin

The wide fronts will fit either tractor but the frames won't interchange. Larry

1650's originally had Holley Dist. But Holley went out of business, so then they used Mallory. Larry
