1650 hydraulic control valve

IP: 209.52.77.10 Posted on March 30, 2015 at 02:14:47 AM by Shawn

I would like to know what kind of fitting i need to use to adapt my Oliver 1650 external valve setup from origional to a new valve i bought from Princess Auto. old external depth stop valve crapped out(impossible to find origional replacement type and salvage yards i phoned around here in canada said to buy new one from PA) and i have ORB fittings on new valve for Pressure side and return all #8. but the pressure line port and return from top cover are some sort of inverted SAE style...

I would go to the Case IH or John Deere businesses that you have up there and see what they have. Larry

Oliver 1850 hard steering

IP: 68.116.21.62 Posted on March 26, 2015 at 12:03:01 PM by nick lelle

Hi Larry, I just bought an Oliver 1850 Diesel with a 3 point and the wheatland front end. I am having trouble locating tie rod ends for this tractor. Any ideas? Also, the steering turns easily to the right but very hard to the left unless I'm moving. I've changed the hydraulic fluid which helped and cleaned the flow diverter(proprietary valve?) as well which didn't help. I'm thinking of rebuilding the steering cylinder to save the clutch. Am I headed in the right direction?

Check with Korves Oliver about tie-rod ends. 618-939-6681. I would check the pressures on the Flow Divider. It should have around 1300 lbs of pressure, either way. Otherwise, the problem could be in your hydra-motor, which may call for replacing that unit as there are no repairs available for them. Larry

We had the same problem on our 1650 and now the 1850 we just bought. Put an aftermarket unit on the 1650 and I have a unit out of a 525 combine which I'm pretty sure will work in the 1850.

Oliver pedal positioning

IP: 70.198.72.25 Posted on March 25, 2015 at 10:13:16 PM by Mitchell Cowan

I have always wondered why is it on the earlier row crops such as a 88 why is the clutch and left brake on one side and the right brake on the right side? How are you supposed to step on both brakes and the clutch to stop the tractor at the same time? Was the positioning just for safety to make you put the tractor into neutral?

Re(1): Oliver pedal positioning

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on March 27, 2015 at 07:46:09 AM by Larry Harsin

I don't know the answer to your question. That is just the way they built the tractor. Larry

There should be a bar with a pad in the center connecting the RH and LH brake pedals, "P/T# 1K1430A Bar, Brake Equalizer". Pressure on the center pad applied both brakes.

1850 cylinder hook up

IP: 65.87.52.149 Posted on March 24, 2015 at 05:27:44 PM by Paul Van Buren

Just bought an 1964 1850. The right side has only one hose coming out of the tractor for the hydraulic cylinder, like it was only used for a one way cylinder. The hose was plumbed into the front hole. We installed the 2nd hose in the rear hole. Is there anything else we need to do to use that side with a two way cylinder?

There is a bleed screw you should check. It is on the top housing. This screw is there for you to make it one way. It explains all of this in your Operator's Manual. You can get one from the museum in Charles City IA. 641-288-1099. Larry

I had this valve apart. The spool moves freely. Is this an interlock problem

Yes. It is possibly an interlock problem. Check the restricters on the outside of the unit and make sure one of them isn't stuck shut. Larry

Oliver 70 Locked Out Gears

IP: 173.49.110.201 Posted on March 21, 2015 at 12:55:26 PM by Christian

Hello, I have a 1938 oliver 70 tractor with the 5 gear engine (old hart parr engine). I read that models after 1937 had a 5th and 6th gear locked out, and the way you can tell is by having a double neutral, which ours does. Do you know of any way to enable the locked gears? Do we need a whole new top cover or just take some device out? Any help is appreciated.

Re(1): Oliver 70 Locked Out Gears

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on March 23, 2015 at 07:16:06 AM by Larry Harsin

I think there is just a screw on a shifting rail inside that you have to remove. Larry

IP: 209.50.26.63 Posted on March 24, 2015 at 00:05:11 AM by B A Star

Tractor with steel wheels had 6th locked out. The right shifter rail which shifts the transmission into 6th gear has a piece (parts book calls it a stop) that prevents the rail from moving into the 6th gear position. Yes it can be removed so that you now have 6th gear.

Purchased an Oliver at auction Nice machine that looks and runs good but doesn't have any of the 3point rods or bars etc. Has strups on either side of seat, working hydraulics, and splind piece that comes out of rear end and will turn when engaged. No model # on hood but have ID and serial # Cant find anybody locally that can tell me much or where to get parts From limited amount of paperwork I think it may be a 55 or 550 Any ideas?

1755 oliver

IP: 107.77.87.48 Posted on March 16, 2015 at 06:05:44 PM by Travis

I have lost some gears in my 1755 oliver. Put it in neutral and it's still in gear and I don't have a high or low reverse. I didn't know if there was any linkage issues or what I really needed to do to get it fixed.

Re(1): 1755 oliver

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on March 17, 2015 at 08:07:27 AM by Larry Harsin

It sounds like you may have something wrong in the shifting mechanism or it has been run low on oil and some gears have seized to the shaft. Larry

White 2-85 over/under

IP: 66.117.102.220 Posted on March 15, 2015 at 06:18:00 PM by Andrew

I have a White 2-85 ser#270 that wouldn't go into over. Using the White factory technical manual and parts manual, I tore the over/under down almost entirely (aside from the gear-driven pump and control spool). I put in all new O-rings, seals, bearings, clutch plates, sprag clutch.) When I put everything back together and started the tractor, I let out on the clutch and there was a noise and an immediate pull on the engine. foolishly I drove the tractor out of the shop and around to the back and into the shed, and in that short amount of time, the oil in the over/under became so hot that I could hear it bubbling. Also shifting it from under to direct seemed to make the engine pull harder. Any ideas on what I've done wrong?

Could the sprag clutch be installed backward?

Re(2): White 2-85 over/under

IP: 66.117.102.220 Posted on March 16, 2015 at 07:17:16 PM by Andrew

When it was time to put the sprag clutch in I got confused about which way to install it. The neighbor's hired man put in many years at an oliver/white dealership as a mechanic and I had him come over and install it for me. I had him look at the unit before I sealed it up and he said it all looked good, but who knows. I'm going to consult with him again about what is going on, but I was looking to get some additional opinions. Another detail I'd forgotten to include was that the oil lines from the o/u to the cooler were cool to the touch when the entire unit was steaming hot. could a line blockage cause this?

1855 won't build pressure

IP: 68.117.59.175 Posted on March 12, 2015 at 08:18:08 PM by Chad

Hi Larry, I have a 1855 that we've used every day until about 8 years ago. The remote hydraulics had been slowly getting weak and slow. I rebuilt the main pump and changed the fluid and filter. Now at start up the pressure goes to 1000. That's down at the main relief valve. If I idle up to about 1200 rpm it goes to 1800. Steering n brakes work. If I adjust the compensator on the pump the pressure will stay the same or even drop. If I increase engine rpm slightly pressure drops to nothing n the hose to the unloader valve chatters. Slow rpm back down n pressure comes back to 1800 but never goes over. Thoughts?

Oliver 2-44 Forklift only have two gears

Hi I have a 2-44 oliver forklift same as a 552 and I only have two operable gears it is an h pattern and the left two work great the bottom right will go in but when disengage clutch is just like neutral and I can not get it to go in the upper right gear any thoughts thanks!

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on March 11, 2015 at 08:44:52 AM by Larry Harsin

It might be that the rail is dislocated. Try pulling the gear shift lever out and try to locate the rails. If you find them, put them back in place and try it again. Larry

1650 and 1750 over charging

IP: 70.194.64.148 Posted on March 8, 2015 at 07:43:24 PM by doug

Hi Larry! I have a 1650 and 2 1750's that overcharge the battery. After changing the regulator twice on the 1650, it doesn't charge at all now so I'm hesitant to try it on the 1750's. I know these wiring systems are really simple but I'm stumped. Checked the obvious like shorts and making sure everything is hooked up right and had the alternators checked and can't figure it out. All 3 have alternators. Any info will be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance!

1465 fuel

I'm trying to start an oliver 1465 that has been sitting for at least 10 years.Have got fresh fuel in tank. Have bled to new filter, and to bleeder at pump while hand pumping. Can not get it to bleed up at injectors while hand pumping. I can hear it pumping back into tank through return line. I get some from the return lines on top but not when I open injector line. Thank you for any advice.

You may have a metering valve that is sticky in the injection pump. You may have to take the pump to a pump shop and get it corrected. Larry

Oliver 77

I have a oliver 77 wide front tractor. 6 cyl. wondering where I can find the serial # on tractor. also it has sat for a couple years.I believe it might be stuck. what is the best way to free up and also is this a positive ground tractor.

Re(1): Oliver 77

IP: 184.21.143.147 Posted on March 3, 2015 at 10:19:44 AM by Larry Harsin

On the older 77's the serial number tag is on the trans. housing ahead of the right brake. On the later 77's, the tag is located on the lower left side of the dash. Put some penetrating oil in each spark plug hole (plugs removed). Originally it was positive ground - 6 volt. Larry
