I have never met John Arthur Morffew. I accept, by faith, that he has the same interest in Morphew/Murphy research as all of us have. I am very thankful that John Arthur Morffew came forward and shared his information. He has put a great deal of time into this research. As serious Morphew/Murphy researchers we would be remiss if we took it less than seriously.

John sent this email with the Merstham, Surrey - 1571 family tree.
Hi Larry,
I am attaching a Microsoft Word document which is the earliest tree I have
from Merstham, Surrey and hope that is usable when it reaches you.
The spelling is as it was originally written and the number of ways of
spelling 'Morphew' is interesting. The people concerned were almost
certainly illiterate and had to rely on the priest, in most cases, for
deciding how to spell a surname when hearing it in a local accent and
possibly not coming from that area himself. This of course opens up
searches, especially in the IGI, of the variations of surname spelling - and
there are course more variations than in this document, especially in the
16th century!
I do not know at the moment whether the three female children survived into
adulthood, but this will be pursued. If this small tree can be used by you I
will be able to produce later ones.
Sincerely
John M.
