My father, Lloyd D. Morphew of Nora Springs, Iowa, left me a couple of books when he passed away in 1995. I am not a family historian although it is an interest of mine. What I am is an internet programmer who is willing to use those skills to make the information available to others for their genealogy use. So, the following are scans of those two books for use by my children, grandchildren, Morphew relatives, Murphy relatives, Eggers relatives, Tatum relatives, Boone relatives, and anyone else that I've left out. If I did leave anyone out, believe me, it was unintentional. I am, however, finding that there are a lot of other surnames in our history! The first of these two books was written by Dr. James R. Murphy, M.D. and published January, 1971. The book is entitled "The Morphews 1748 - 1870". Dr. Murphy has been in contact with me and has given his blessing to having the book on this website. Click here for up-to-date comments about this book (straight from the author - James R. Murphy, M.D.! Also, James R. Murphy, M.D. has recently been in contact with me to announce that the second version of his book (2nd Edition, Morphew/Murphy Story ? J.R. Murphy, 4/2001), is now available on the internet at: http://www.planetmurphy.com/genealogy/. I am certain that this new information will be of great interest to all serious researchers. Thanks Jim! Your love for knowledge of your past is helping us all! The second book (really a hand typed and mimeographed manuscript) is dated January 1970 and has no title but is signed by Arlie C. Morphew, C. Grace Morphew, and the same James R. Murphy, M.D. (Dr. James R. Murphy, M.D. has also given me permission to have this book on this website.) I cannot attest to the accuracy of any of these pages. I accept by faith that Arlie, C.Grace, and James worked very hard gathering this information and doubt that they would have published anything that wasn't accurate (at least accurate according to their research). Access both books and the updates BY CLICKING HERE. I have just completed typing and uploading over 250 handwritten pages of my grandmother's memoirs (Elizabeth M. (Dudley-Hutchinson) Morphew) What a treasure! Elizabeth was a pioneer child in north central Iowa starting around 1873. If you're a Morphew, Hutchinson, or Dudley you'll want to be sure to print off these pages (around 30 typed pages). Just fascinating reading. Access the pages HERE!

Polly Murphy has been doing substantial research on the Murphy/Morphew connection. She recently emailed some of her research to me and asked that I post it for serious researchers. I post it here. Thanks for the contribution, Polly.
If any family members have additional research which could be scanned and entered on the world wide web, my U.S. Mail address is PO Box 334, Estherville, Iowa 51334. Having my address will facilitate your sending me this information. It will be returned after it is scanned. Another method of getting photos to me would be to scan them locally and email the images to me. Also, if any family members know of other Morphew/Murphy sites on the internet, I would appreciate it if you'd send me those addresses.
Finally, if a younger Morphew would be interested in taking over this site sometime in the future please start email correspondence with me. A general knowledge of HTML would be helpful but I would be willing to train the right person (the most important qualification for the job is committment and the willingness to work free). You don't need to be local, or even in the same state as the conference calling service I use makes it easy to share computer monitors, and it would be as if I was standing over your shoulder and helping train you in the basics you'd need to know. I just think that this site should stay up on the net and I know that I will not be able to do it forever.
Sincerely,
Larry D. Morphew
